• "The generals are kidnapped, and in several cases killed, in front of their families, while later the captured generals are tortured while the communists dance around a bonfire." This sentence does not sound well-structured, with two "while"s.

• Yes, I agree that cast section is not mandatory. I was merely asking if you would consider such a section, since that often help in easy navigating for the readers. They can refer back to cast section if needed, when encountering a particular actor/character's name in some other section.
