Behavioral Ecology - WikiProject

Hello! I added the following sections to this article: Geographic range, Food resources, Parental care, Life cycle (egg, larva, pupa, and adult), Migration, Enemies, Mating, Pest of crop plants, and Pest control. I also added 7 new references and various citations throughout the article. Peer Review

Hi! I thought that this was a great article - it was quite informative about the cutworm's status as a pest, the crops that it targets, and the methods of control. I added some citations to the overview, since it contained information from throughout the rest of the article and from multiple references. I edited some of your references to fix a DOI and add some more information about authors, dates, volume and other aspects of them. I also added some more information about oviposition and migration to those sections from one of the references. I added an image of the dorsal view of the adult male moth since you had a ventral view of the adult as well. I also made some grammatical changes throughout the article.

I think that the list of crops and parasites could be condensed a little better, as right now they're both mainly lists of species. Additionally, a few things confuse me and I think they could be clarified; what exactly are the "forms" that have different colors - subspecies? They're listed in the synonyms but it's not clear what exactly they are. For the migration section, you talk about warmer and colder months, but which areas do they apply to? I also think that pictures of other life cycle stages would be helpful, but I looked around and could not find any. jerryshen (talk) 19:46, 27 October 2017 (UTC)

Hello, great article! I made some minor edits to help improve the article. I moved the photo of the larva to the Larva subsection because it was under the Egg section previously. I also added a photo of the ragweed for some more variety in photos, but feel free to remove it if you feel it doesn’t contribute. Under Enemies, I started a new section on parasitism, found a decent source, and added information. I created two subsections under Food resources to help with clarity: Common plants and Weeds. I also agree with jerryshen that it would be nice to somehow summarize the food resources another way. I don’t have a concrete solution so I edited (in source editor) the bulleted list into two columns to at least help the length of the list. However, one suggestion I have is that you could possibly create smaller lists within the Common plants, such as “Fruits,” “Vegetables,” “Grasses,” etc. J.j.lee (talk) 03:27, 28 October 2017 (UTC)

I made some minor changes throughout the article. I fixed typos and changed "degrees Celsius" to "°C" just to be more concise. I also found a nice diagram of the life cycle that included some other stages that were not illustrated before. For the "Larva" section, the paragraph right now is very dense with data, so I think it would be beneficial to find some way to present the lengths in each instar more clearly, such as using bullet points. Great work on this article! The content is very thorough and covers a wide variety of important topics. I made a few small grammatical edits and added a couple internal links. I also broke the migration section into two separate subsections to add more clarity. A couple suggestions I have for you are to add more detail to the brief discussion of larval "army-worm" behavior --it seems very interesting, but does not go into much depth. Similarly, I think the mating section could use more detail about the role of the female pheromone in mating. Finally, there are a number of places where many species are listed. I think in these cases, it would add clarity and structure to put them into a list format instead of in a chunk of text. Thanks! Hanna peterman (talk) 22:32, 28 October 2017 (UTC)
