T-Series leader tweeted
Bhushan Kumar, leader of T-Series, tweeted today telling people to subscribe to the T-Series YouTube channel: https://mobile.twitter.com/itsBhushanKumar/status/1103234186201116672. You might want to add this to the article.2607:EA00:107:3407:D1C4:5AC3:7B5A:ED67 (talk) 19:41, 6 March 2019 (UTC)

Plan U
I am suggesting that an article about plan U should be put into the article as support for T Series but the topic is big enough for its own section. BMO4744 (talk) 23:39, 9 March 2019 (UTC) sources

FlareTV Stream versus Social Blade stream
I keep getting my edits marked as "original research" when I am simply attempting to state facts, without partiality. The fact is that the FlareTV stream is presently playing "Bitch Lasagna" in a loop, as PewDiePie is currently the most-subscribed channel. It is also attracting more viewers, and while there is tons of spam (like "T Gay"), we might need a better source for that. The Social Blade stream, on the other hand, plays a variety of music (not the Lasagna song) and has fewer viewers, but less spam problems. I'd like to incorporate most to all of this information in the article. --LABcrabs (talk) 17:10, 10 March 2019 (UTC)

Line chart?
I was thinking about a section titled "Events" or something similar. It would include the content currently in the "Other events" section plus the various projections over the months as to when would T-Series surpass PewDiePie. I'd put the section between the Background and Activism sections. I'm asking if there should be a line chart showing the numbers of subscribers of PewDiePie and T-Series (see e.g. this chart). The only problem in my opinion is that this could go on indefinitely and that it would be hard to determine the "end" of the rivalry. We probably shouldn't engage in original research to determine that, although I think that this would end with T-Series permanently surpassing PewDiePie (unlikely), T-Series' subscriber number plateauing after all of India has a chance to subscribe to T-Series or some other new channel(s), or finally one of the two deleting their channel. wumbolo ^^^ 11:10, 25 February 2019 (UTC)
- The article currently has something like my idea (the Competition section). However, I'd move the live stream information and the YouTube response back to the Response section, possibly in new sub-sections titled "YouTube" and "Other events". That would leave the Competition section almost empty, but it can be filled with the wide variety of speculations and progress. Having a properly-cited list of the passings seems like a great idea to me. When there's consensus on the issues I've mentioned, I believe that this article will have a high-quality structure. wumbolo ^^^ 22:21, 11 March 2019 (UTC)

Why does this project fall under Wikiproject India?
Even though T-Series is an India based music company I do not see why this mock war should be under the India banner. It is a full on YouTube and Internet culture project. If it does fall under this banner. Why shouldn't it fall under Wikiproject Europe because PewDiePie is from Europe. BMO4744 (talk) 23:49, 9 March 2019 (UTC)
- Well, for one thing, Europe is a continent, and India is a country. More importantly, this article is specifically part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Indian music, since T-Series is a record company and music channel. That project is a sub-project for the larger Wikiproject India one. This article isn't particularly relevant to India as a country, but it seems more plausibly relevant to Music of India. As far as I know, there is no Wikipedia:WikiProject Swedish video game players or similar, and if their is, by all means, add the project. Otherwise, unless you are interested in Indian music, don't worry about it. Grayfell (talk) 00:14, 10 March 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for clearing that up. I thought because of the Indian flag and the fact that the banner had Wiki-project India / music that it was both India and Indian music. BMO4744 (talk) 00:30, 10 March 2019 (UTC)
- Sure. It's not clearly explained, is it? WikiProject Indian music is a child-project of both WikiProject India and WikiProject Music. These projects each cover tens of thousands (hundreds of thousands?) of articles. Grayfell (talk) 01:02, 10 March 2019 (UTC)
The WMF needs to reorganize all this stuff because it gets confusing with child projects and project trees. (WMF don't take me seriously) BMO4744 (talk) 21:01, 13 March 2019 (UTC)
Not notable.
Come on guys, this is not notable or a "online competition".
Okay, pewdiepie is notable. This thing is just one of his "memes", there is nothing relevant in any of this for Wikipedia.
The very first link about a "subscriber war" is about the defaced memorial. That does not count as a reference by the media since they were reporting on the crime and not the "online competition". Anonywiki (talk) 18:34, 13 March 2019 (UTC)
NB: Please do NOT remove good faith and valid talking points such as the above. Anonywiki (talk) 20:57, 13 March 2019 (UTC)
- You know very well you can't vandalise an article just because you disagree with it. If you really want to you can propose it for deletion but the output will be a fat "decline" since this article is well sourced. Stop vandalising this page. Nixinova T C 23:55, 13 March 2019 (UTC)
"This is not […] a 'online competition'".
I could've agreed to that statement up until a few weeks ago where the very head of T-Series made so. Several times. On several media. I have since accepted the idea that it became a competition.
Plus, the very idea of rejecting things for not being notable goes against the philosophy of an encyclopedia. If it is notable enough to have coverage via primary sources, you might as well place it. 190.242.24.14 (talk) 02:23, 14 March 2019 (UTC)
Just because an article is well-sourced doesn't mean it's notable enough for Wikipedia. Plenty of outlets have soap opera drama yet every soap opera feud doesn't get its own Wikipedia entry.
190.242.24.14 notability is a fundamental part of the criteria of whether or not something should be on Wikipedia. Again primary sources don't give notability to everything they report on and also where are the online sources calling it an "online competition"? Seems like clear original research to me, particularly using the word "competition", I think that's very out of place. Anonywiki (talk) 03:02, 14 March 2019 (UTC)
- If you don't think the article is notable, feel free to nominate it for deletion. FallingGravity 07:48, 14 March 2019 (UTC)
Possible addition to article
For those not in the loop, T-Series has been accused of using sub bots for their account, and I feel that it may be something noteworthy to add to the page. While I don,t have the links to the reddit posts regarding those, I do have this video from youtuber "The gamer from mars" that has a lot of the reddit posts, and some other things relating to it. The time stamps are for the youtube video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rE2f5LVVIaE Time Stamps: 2:39 4:30 5:33 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Redactedfox (talk • contribs) 04:15, 14 March 2019 (UTC)

Suggestion to add the reason T Series surpassed PewDiePie at March 9th
At March 9, around 4:17, a channel named "MaximilianMus" that recently gained a large audience started a live stream where he told people to unsubscribe from PewDiePie and subscribe to T Series. Two minutes later, at 4:19 T Series actually surpassed PewDiePie for a few minutes. My suggestion is to simply include that fact in the article. MaximilianMus eventually deleted his stream, but a reupload of his full stream can be found with this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4TKzwla9Sc4 So maybe you can include that too. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.139.152.71 (talk) 12:59, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
Really, the 'March 2019 Christchurch mosque shootings' are 'Support of PewDiePie'?
What... Swabdoris (talk) 01:35, 16 March 2019 (UTC)
- Yeah Brenton Tarrant said "Sub to PewDiePie" during the livestream he made carrying the attack out. It may be worth mentioning in the article, but definitely not in the lead as it isn't that significant to the subject. funplussmart (talk) 01:38, 16 March 2019 (UTC)
- I think it should be in a different category or it’s own category in the article, because i’m pretty sure after this attack the competition is over. This is a mayor event for this Article.
- Pewdiepie has stopped posting, deactivated the sub gap bot, as well as all Related Subreddits. We can probably expect some kind of statement in the next day or days.
- Even if it should continue, this attack has put the entire thing in a drastic new Light and can’t be lumped under “support”
- The attacker didn’t do the attack to directly “support” pewdiepie.
- He did it to further his own ideologies and not to help pewdiepie win a online competition. — Preceding unsigned comment added by XaviarVurnt (talk • contribs) 15:02, 16 March 2019 (UTC)
- He did say "subscribe to PewDiePie", even though the attack wasn't done to support him. Compare with Donald Trump#Support from white supremacists, which exists even though Trump has condemned them. Though WP:WEIGHT should be determined by WP:RS not WP:OR. wumbolo ^^^ 15:50, 16 March 2019 (UTC)
- Good Point. It makes more sense with that precedent. You could argue though, about the legitimacy of the support, compared to that offered to Trump. Was he actually wanting people to subscribe to pewdiepie? Or was he just just ironically regurgitating internet memes, hoping to sow more discontent and giving media talking points? In the context of the category it might seem like more than it was. The entire subject seems like a can of worms though. Maybe in a few days there will be a clearer sentiment, but I believe it should be changed either way. — Preceding unsigned comment added by XaviarVurnt (talk • contribs) 20:40, 16 March 2019 (UTC)

Ok, this is NOT a supporting call for PewDiePie. It is a hate act and should not be part of the article. The reason he shouted out PewDiePie was to cause a frurl and not to support Felix.BMO4744 (talk) 11:30, 19 March 2019 (UTC)
Hackings in lead
@Eligio Budde: why did you remove this from the lead? "Thousands of vulnerable printers, cameras, streaming dongles and smart TVs were hacked to promote PewDiePie and point to security vulnerabilities." wumbolo ^^^ 09:03, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
If anything, the paragraph looks a bit messy if you are to include that bit, exactly where is it right now. Maybe creating a new paragraph with milestones about events would be better.
Eligio Budde (talk) 17:43, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
- Putting the hackings in the lead gives undue coverage for the actions of one or two anonymous hackers. How about mentioning more actually notable people who have participated in the competition? FallingGravity 07:52, 14 March 2019 (UTC)
I'll redo the lead if no one contradicts. BMO4744 (talk) 21:40, 19 March 2019 (UTC)
"Great Subscriber War" really?!!?!??!?!
Who calls this the "Great Subscriber war and why is it in the title sentence? I think we would need more than one reused source to really call it that in the title sentence. Also the source in question was mocking the subject where it stated that. I recommend renaming it to something along the lines of "The great subscriber race" or just a whole sentence near the bottom for the names people have called it.BMO4744 (talk) 19:48, 19 March 2019 (UTC)
- I agree. It is not necessary. wumbolo ^^^ 22:52, 19 March 2019 (UTC)
All of the passings.
I think we should take the approach that Most Subscribed YouTubers List took and just forgo the list of subscriber passings. The list is always out of date and the talk page has a lot of unnecessary semi protected edit requests for this. It is unnecessary even for this article. I will remove it if their is no contraindication in 48 hours.BMO4744 (talk) 02:38, 19 March 2019 (UTC)
- That's why I suggested putting a subscriber graph. It would convey most of the progress yet it wouldn't need coverage in reliable sources and constant updating. wumbolo ^^^ 22:53, 19 March 2019 (UTC)
T-Series was never #1
Either you count every little pass as "officially #1", or the channel that's at #1 for the majority of a day is the official #1. No other standard makes sense. T-Series so far has less than 12 hours of March 21, so Pewdiepie's streak is still unbroken. 30 min is the same as 11 hours 30 min. HonestManBad (talk) 16:23, 21 March 2019 (UTC)
- T-Series was a number 1 back then. If you want a daily status - the #1 is a disputed between 2 channels. --46.39.248.31 (talk) 18:57, 21 March 2019 (UTC)

Statistic reliability, official source
On the Socialblade stream, the subscriber gap went up and down more than 100000 in a few minutes today. That's very obviously a result of botting and was fixed rather quickly. But now I wonder: Does YouTube give out an official statistic? The display on the channel page is probably skewed by bots, caching and more, Analytics isn't public, Socialblade isn't official, … Is there an official source? The two channels basically switch sides daily now in the live stream, but those are pretty surely not the correct numbers, for example the way it stops going down for hours right before the gap hits 0 every day is extremely suspicious. Fabian42 (talk) 23:34, 21 March 2019 (UTC)
I believe it was the YouTube API being weird rather than botting.BMO4744 (talk) 18:27, 22 March 2019 (UTC)
Vandalism persists
T-Series is not currently number one. PewDiePie is. The variance of subscribers comes from various sources: "Plan" projects (dubbed "Plan U" and "Plan P"), live streams, Twitter, etc. It's not just from Reddit. Reference to social blade in subscriber passings list
I was thinking about deleting the "ref" row and just place the social blade page as a global reference. I feel like referencing every single one of them is a bit redundant; notes will have their respective references when necessary. Eligio Budde (talk) 16:33, 27 March 2019 (UTC)
- Is social blade an acceptable source though on Wikipedia? —Wei4Green | 唯绿远大 (talk) 17:44, 27 March 2019 (UTC)
- If it's cited by other reliable sources and generally accepted, yes. However, it is a WP:PRIMARY source, and secondary sources should be used wherever possible. Don't forget that Social Blade is a corporation, and giving them unnecessary attention would be spam. That's why I'd remove the link to their subscriber graph in favor of having our own graph. I'm sure we could use Social Blade's numbers, as they can't be copyrighted, although WP:INCITE attribution should probably be provided as a reference. wumbolo ^^^ 17:54, 27 March 2019 (UTC)

An attempt of a more neutral and accurate intro
After being the most-subscribed channel[note 1] in the video-sharing platform YouTube since late 2013, in August 2018 a second channel approached the most-subscribed spot. In response, PewDiePie's fanbase started a campaign to keep PewDiePie as the most-subscribed channel in the platform. Even after several months of campaign, T-Series became the most-subscribed channel on 27 March 2019.[1]
Public figures such as YouTubers (among them; MrBeast, Markiplier, Jacksepticeye and Logan Paul) and representatives of the UKIP have voiced their support for PewDiePie. On the other hand, YouTubers such as CarryMinati and Jus Reign have voiced their support for T-Series.
Activism of PewDiePie supporters extended beyond legal grounds; with vandalism, hackings of websites, social media accounts, personal devices, and the creation of malware have taken place in order to tell users to subscribe to his channel.
What do you think? Eligio Budde (talk) 00:01, 1 April 2019 (UTC)

Request for editing "Activism - Other Activism".
In Moscow there was a meeting "Against Russian Internet Isolation" at 10-th of March, 2019 , organized by Russian Libertarian Party (not oficially registered because of opposition pressing by goverment). It was visited by 15000 citizens. "Bitch Lasagna" was contained in the soundtrack list of meeting, which was strongly accepted by public with choral singing. Also some of meeting visitors used "Sub 2 Pewdiepie" as a transparent.
After meeting, a lot of government-accosiated Telegram channels with tens of thousands subscribers (it's a lot for Telegram) started to distribute a message in which they blame Pewdiepie himself for organizing this meeting and russian opposition support.
One of sources that completely covers the situation: https://tjournal.ru/internet/90224-v-socsetyah-razoshlos-rassledovanie-chto-miting-za-svobodu-interneta-proplatil-pewdiepie-avtory-parodiynyy-kanal-rt

- So, I could not find any reliable sources which confirmed that any of Telegram channels reposted message with Pewdiepie support of meeting. Of course all such records was deleted as soon as their authors understand that it was fake news even before google scanned it. There is only a tweet of member of council of Libertarian party, that he saw such records, with screenshot: https://twitter.com/msvetov/status/1105818930571022336 128.68.254.73 (talk)

Permission to change "other events" to "livestreams"?
The section "Other events" has literally no information besides very basic info on the two major livestreams. I say that section title gets changed to "livestreams" to better reflect its purpose. I also want to add more comprehensive info on the livestreams, such as stream length, average viewership, and music.
NameNameLikeWha (talk) 21:29, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
- That's a good suggestion. I think that the content of the section is fine as it is. It is short, but it should be verified to reliable sources, without original research. wumbolo ^^^ 21:33, 4 April 2019 (UTC)

The lead
Should the lead cover PewDiePie's and T-Series' response? It seems very nuanced but perhaps something can be written. wumbolo ^^^ 19:05, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
- In my opinion, it should mention PewDiePie's diss tracks and T-Series' court orders. wumbolo ^^^ 10:00, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
T-Series latest pass
Could somebody please fill in an accurate time of the pass please? I check at 10:05, and T-Series was leading by about 1.1k subs, so when i went to add it in, i took a guess and put in 10:03 as the start-time. If this hasen't been done, please would you update my time with the accurate time please?
More to add
To the "Small youtubers" Pewdiepie support part, can you add "Crypt", who released a song title "Subscribe to Pewdiepie", which encourages viewers to sub to pewdiepie, and has over 320,000 views, and "Absolute Alpha", who released a song titled "April Fools", a semi-joke video (It was claimed to have been made in "12 minutes, writing and all") which talks about how T-Series proclaimed victory, then on April Fools Day, Pewdiepie came back and was back on top, inheriently making it an "April Fools Joke" on T-Series. The video has only 12 views, but it pops. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Human69420 (talk • contribs) 09:56, 6 April 2019 (UTC)
- Human69420 - We cannot write about everyone who has made a video/song in support of PewDiePie or T-Series, only what has been reported in reliable sources. CoolSkittle (talk) 23:18, 7 April 2019 (UTC)

Final source cleanup
I've replaced many unreliable sources with reliable ones, but some I couldn't. Some are appropriate as WP:PRIMARY e.g. interviews. But others may not be. Below is my list of content sourced to questionable sources; feel free to point out any others. (I believe that the rest of the article is currently sourced to good and/or excellent sources; that's per WP:RSN archives and WP:RSP.)

Smaller Youtubers have also promoted PewDiePie. In reaction to MrBeast's advertising campaign, Saimandar Waghdhare, an independent Indian YouTuber with the channel "Saiman Says", responded to MrBeast's advertising campaign by posting a sarcastic video in which he pretends to support T-Series. However, he later released a video in which he declares his support to PewDiePie.[37] Musician Davie504 flew from Hong Kong to Noida and played "Bitch Lasagna", PewDiePie's diss track against T-Series, outside their headquarters on a bass guitar.[38] Another small YouTuber by the name of Lukas Goldenwalker Shuushee, said PewDiePie 1000 times in a video, following up of what MrBeast did back in October of 2018.Cite error: There are <ref>

International PewDiePie Day
International PewDiePie Day (IPD) is starting in a few parts of the world and will continue across the world in the next day. I suggest adding a dedicated section in Activism > Support of PewDiePie that details the activism. Planned activities include posting promotional posters[1], Project Starhammer (flying a "Thank You PewDiePie" banner over NYC w/ a livestream hosted by VoiceoverPete) (best reference I could was the GoFundMe page which is blacklisted. There's a link in the rotating banner on the IPD main page), making a "Thank You PewDiePie" video featuring community content[2], and more.
Because it's an ongoing event, we could note activities (with references) on talk and format them together into paragraphs on the main article. Any suggestions? AppMaster1000 (talk) 16:12, 28 April 2019 (UTC)

When exactly does the "war" end?
I'm just wondering the specifics of when it is officially over with, at 100 million subscribers, now after the passing, or what? — Preceding unsigned comment added by WeatherBoyWheeler (talk • contribs) 14:37, 28 March 2019 (UTC)

- This "war" will end when there are no longer reliable sources recently. —Wei4Green | 唯绿远大 (talk) 19:31, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
- With a T-Series lead of two days, it appears there is no hope for PewDiePie anymore. I count it over. All it takes is PewDiePie making some announcement video about the end, the media reporting on it as over, and then we can add that as a source and file it over as a T-Series victory. 177.9.248.51 (talk) 11:57, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
- Activities on both sides seem to have died down. I'm pretty sure this is it. Perhaps there will be a spike in activity right before 100M, but mostly this is all over. Since this is barely in the news, WP:ITN is not an option, but I'm wondering why pageviews aren't dropping. wumbolo ^^^ 16:59, 31 March 2019 (UTC)

April 28, 2019, PewDiePie released a video that means the end of the war, "Ending the Subscribe to Pewdiepie Meme". The community asks to stop the stream with subscribers counters, everyone writes RIP and F for PewDiePie. The increase in subscribers is very small. I know we had this conversation before but... Article renaming thread, maybe
To be honest, I think the name that fits the best is:
Subscribe to PewDiePie (movement)
This name is not really not-neutral, and more importantly, it's accurate. I've always seen the claim of this being, in any shape or form, a competition, as ungrounded. Sure fans did a lot and there was a point where both T-Series and PewDiePie's fans were doing a lot of this, but in the minds of both PewDiePie and Chairman of T-Series, Bhushan Kumar, it was never a competition per se. PewDiePie referred to it as a meme, but to be honest, Subscribe to PewDiePie became a trend, and a form of activism and the main concern fans addressed was the one of YouTube becoming more corporate-friendly as one corporation would take the #1 spot. We can always make use of
Subscribe to PewDiePie (meme)
because it's not like it will be a novelty to have an article dedicated to a meme and this, having covered a good 6 to 7 months and being an international trend, I think it's a noteworthy meme.
OR you can place your own suggestions or stick to the current name. Eligio Budde (talk) 04:21, 29 April 2019 (UTC)
The End of The War
So, PewDiePie just announced that he no longer wants to continue this war. In other words, it's over. Someone should update this page regarding this. Here is the video. JahinZee (talk) 11:41, 29 April 2019 (UTC)
This article seems littered with original research.
When is this rivalry ever referred to by fans (in sources) as the "Great Subscriber War"? When is Mr. Beast (in sources) directly described as the most prominent YouTuber to endorse him, despite notably YouTuber's with larger subscriber counts endorsing him?
