translation of "polizei"
editi actually found a use of the english word "police" in just that sense. Stephen Pinker in his Book "The Blank Slate" cites Rousseau, but i was unable to find the original source. my emphasis. police must mean something like "public policy" or "politics" in this context.
In 1755 Rousseau wrote: So many authors have hastily concluded that man is naturally cruel, and requires a regular system of police to be reclaimed; whereas nothing can be more gentle than him in his primitive state, when placed by nature at an equal distance from the stupidity of brutes and the pernicious good sense of civilized man. . . .

should this be in Law enforcement?
editseems like it's more about political science, especially given the alternate meaning for "polizei". --blight345 9:29, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

I guess this arcticle is german police advertising. The title obviously calls it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.90.212.220 (talk) 09:27, 29 January 2019 (UTC)
