Short description
edit@D.Lazard: The longer short description "Expression of a polynomial as the composition of two polynomials" (64L) is certainly more complete and less gnomic than "Algebraic functional decomposition" (34L), but short descriptions are supposed to be short -- "no more than about 40 characters" and not necessarily complete:
- they are not intended to define the subject of the article. Rather, they provide a very brief indication of the field that is covered, a short descriptive annotation, and a disambiguation in searches (especially to distinguish the subject from similarly titled subjects in different fields). (WP:SDCONTENT)
The 34L description is not ideal -- it uses mathematical jargon, and for the naive user, doesn't clarify that this is related to mathematics. And both 64L and 34L use words that are already in the title itself. Maybe something like "Algebraic technique" is what's needed? --Macrakis (talk) 14:08, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
- The main purpose of a short decomposition is not to be short, it is to be useful to readers. Your short description is short, but cannotbe useful, as it paraphrases the title by replacing "polynomial" by the more jargonning (in this cotext) "algebraic" an adding the technical "functional". I agree that my first short desc is too long, but I have changed it for one that has exactly 40 characters. D.Lazard (talk) 17:22, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
