Official name
editThe offical name of this Institution is Politecnico di Torino: if the page is called Polytechnic University of Turin, then there is a mistake. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.17.172.177 (talk • contribs) 17:43, 17 May 2013
name
editWikipedia:UNIGUIDE#Naming_conventions says that "Colleges and universities should always be named using the common (not necessarily official) name of the institution. This can often be determined by looking at current branding of a university via their website, published documents, and advertisements." On the university website [1] the name is always written in Italian, also in the english version of the website. I think this article has to be moved to Politecnico di Torino.--79.17.172.177 (talk) 17:43, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

- Support "..is" 122 results to "current title..is" = zero. "Polytechnic of Turin is" = 10. In ictu oculi (talk) 06:07, 15 October 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:EN, and Google.com brings many more results for the current title. Thebestfeet 13:10, 15 October 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thebestfeet (talk • contribs)
- Weak oppose due to a preference to use English and a preference for stability. —BarrelProof (talk) 18:33, 15 October 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose. Here is a an example of the current title used by the news agency IPS. If an English language translation is actual use, that's what we should use for the title, according to WP:USEENGLISH. KlingonHeaven (talk) 08:13, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

Politecnico di Torino has no english name translation (9 years later)
editAs someone stated previously, the university's name is "Politecnico di Torino". In every webpage of Politecnico's english website the name of the university is "Politecnico di Torino". Most ranking websites list the university as "Politecnico di Torino" (QS TopUniversities, 4icu, mastersportal, roundranking, and of course all Italian ranking pages), altough some ranking websites (US News and THE) list it using the unofficial English translation. A Google search for "Politecnico di Torino" returns 16,000,000 results, while a search for "Polytechnic University of Turin" returns 1,600,000 results. I see that a move was requested in 2013 and opposed, I do not know if another move can be requested, if so I will. Fabioski01 (talk) 17:00, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
