Just a suggestion, should we also talk about attempts to film this story. IIRC, There was a serial based on this in DD, Gemini Ganeshan wanted to film this, and of late, Mani Ratnam and Kamal Hassan have tried taking that up... Chandrachoodan Gopalakrishnan

Possible vandalism?

edit

Can someone more familiar with the article's content verify whether the 2006-01-04 07:47:23 deletion by 59.163.146.5 [1] is vandalism or not? --Piet Delport 01:59, 1 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

probably deleted as not relevant to the plot since the comment tries to locate this work of fiction in relation to historical hypotheses. but, i think the comment is fine and cd remain pravin

Fair use rationale for Image:Ponniyin selvan volume 1.jpg

edit

Image:Ponniyin selvan volume 1.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

The Tamil Nadu government runs a scheme whereby it acquires the copyright in works of cultural significance, and places them in the public domain for free reproduction. Kalki is one of the authors whose works they've acquired under this scheme, as you'll see from this Frontline article. -- Arvind (talk) 12:25, 23 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

The link you gave says something about "nationalisation" of Kalki's works. Not sure what it means -- it doesnt say that they are in public domain. Can you clarify? Sarvagnya 20:33, 23 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well, that's what the Government has done after nationalisation. Here's an article which mentions it expressly:
When they started out, says Kalyanasundaram, the project worked on ancient Tamil texts and out of print books. But soon they expanded to cover contemporary authors too when the Government of Tamil Nadu brought the works of around 25 20th Century authors into the public domain including Bharathiyar, Bharathidasan, Kalki, Pattukottai Kalyanasundaram and others.
And here:
Kalki's novels have appeared as serials and reprints. The Tamil Nadu Government placed his works in the public domain and all the leading Tamil publishers brought out editions of his works. --Arvind (talk) 21:40, 23 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
