Although a number of subspecies and forms are mentioned, hardly anything is said about the color variations. The tremula form can be blue all over, not just black, with only a vague hint of the white spots, but with orange spots present. Most specimens have some (very variable) blue iridescence all over the dark parts of the wings, not just around the orange spots.
