Why does this game need a separate article? The main article, Pro Evolution Soccer 2008, should cover versions from all consoles, including the Wii. – PeeJay 19:23, 13 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

The Wii version of PES 2008 is radically different game altogether, done by a different team to take full advantage of the Wii Remote. Also, it received glowing reviews (unlike the other versions), and it even has a different subtitle in Japan (Play Maker) and a different logo (with the arrow and circles). --NSider (talk) 14:56, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I still don't see why this one deserves its own article. The next gen versions of FIFA 08 were radically different from the PC and PS2 versions, but you don't see separate articles for them. – PeeJay 17:55, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
The difference in the Wii version of PES 2008 isn't a superficial difference in graphics and a few modes and gameplay tweaks. PES 2008 Wii has completely new gameplay, and not just a different control scheme. And I think the completely separate development team, different name in Japan, different logo worldwide, and much more positive reviews prove this is a completely different game. --NSider (talk) 06:22, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
It's still marketed as Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 in pretty much every country except Japan though. All of those things can be mentioned in the Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 article. – PeeJay 07:53, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
It's a Japanese game, so the name in Japan is important. And actually, the Wii game was released much after the other versions, and was marketed separately as "PES 2008 for Wii" with an emphasis on the new gameplay and controls, and the logo was prominent in all advertisements. Even the cover of the French version had Drogba holding a Wii Remote and Nunchuk. I get your point, but it's a completely separate game that differs in almost every respect (except the commentary, licensed teams and name in the west). You won't understand until you play the game. It's like comparing Metal Gear Solid to Metal Gear: Ghost Babel because they have the same name in the west.
I considered titling the article with the Japanese name, Winning Eleven Play Maker 2008, to avoid confusion with the other versions, much like the Ghost Babel article, but I decided against that. Maybe I should do that.. --NSider (talk) 13:12, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
