US-centric?

edit

I haven't begun to pour through this to check for content, so I just copy edited the whole thing as best as I could in the little time I got. I'll dig into this much more as time goes on, but I just made it more readable for now. RegBarc 06:52, 20 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Also needs to be less US-centric. It's currently entirely about American probation officers. -- Necrothesp 16:13, 20 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
I don't know about less US-centric as it needs to take in more of a world-view. There also needs to be sections devoted to History, etc., of probation officers. Another thing is that we need to differentiate and show similarities between probation and parole officers in the United States - RegBarc 23:32, 20 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
In response to the need to by less US-centric, please feel free to edit. As for hisory, please link to probation catagory.

This article is U.S. Centric but the only countries with active national community corrections program are the U.S.A., the U.K., Austrila, New Zealand and Canada. What do you expect?
I added the sections on Probation and Parole in England and Wales, and Australia, and clarified Parole in the Federal system, and the general role of probation officers in the United States. I know it's not much for the other countries as of yet, but it will at least get this ball rolling. RegBarc 19:30, 18 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Contrary to what our friend in the third comment believes (unsigned comment), Probation, Parole and other alternatives to imprisonment are very much practiced in most of Europe especially in the EU. vide http://www.cep-probation.org/ --Vickygrech (talk) 20:05, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I am a Senior Probation Officer in the UK. This is my first venture onto this forum. Would it help if I gave an overview of what probation in the UK means? Mickey P

I've just tidied up this page, including the addition of titles, removing stray format embedded in comments, amending the order by moving MickyP's question, and indenting. No animals or probation officers were harmed during this process. --Tagishsimon (talk) 23:34, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

How much would i make to become a probation officer????? they earn about 2,000 dollars a year for the people they get and thats for probably for about 10 people and thats is good just for ten people and they have to go to court with there and try to help keep them out of trouble. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.2.235.98 (talk) 18:03, 30 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

England and Wales

edit

The England and Wales section is so riddled with errors I shall remove it all together - it should not be trusted. Probation in England and Wales in currently being reorganised from 1st June and there are many unanswered questions about how the two probation organisations in each locality will eventually operate together and divide up the work between each organisation.

I am not certain of the precise date, but the first National Probation Service was effectively wound up in about 2007/8 with a new and second NPS starting afresh on 1st June 2014. Tolkny 00:05, 18 June 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tolkny (talkcontribs)
