editIn the opening para, the word dasas is used and it may not be intelligible for a general reader. Also, it is best to replace "immeasurable" to considerable in the same opening para.--Aadal (talk) 23:41, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
RFC on reliability
editPer RFC at Carnatic music article - there has been an apparent synthesis of thought, as well as use of unreliable sources to purport the patently false claim that Purandaradasa was called the father of Carnatic music because he founded the music system as it is today. Naadapriya has however insisted that this is a true claim based on reliable sources, despite the fact Purandaradasa was called the father of Carnatic music because he founded the system of teaching Carnatic music as it is known today. I've opened this RFC in the hope of settling this through the appropriate dispute resolution channel. Ncmvocalist (talk) 07:17, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
Your own interpretation (he was a pioneer in pedagogy, not of the genre itself) is also unreferenced. But your complaint has some merit. E.g., of six references offered by Naadapriya, only one passes the criteria set down at WP:RS. The whole article was very subjectively written -- terribly immature prose. Nevertheless, it was basically substantial; after I cleaned it up, there was a lot of substance left. Hurmata (talk) 02:51, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
Ncmvocalist, in English to call someone the "father" or "mother" of something (like "rock and roll") means they created it, not merely enhanced it or popularized it. But it occurs to me that this may not be the interpretation in every other language. Beyond that argument, it seems to me there were some sources (maybe not among the "reliable" ones, I'm not bothering to check at the moment) that referenced a Kannada term that they translate as either "father" or "grandfather" of Carnatic music. Now, if the natives himself call Purandara "the father of", then how can you justify not quoting that? The only way that I can imagine would be if you could substantiate that the metaphor does mean something different to the Kannadigas. Hurmata (talk) 06:10, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
- Hurmata, in the English Wikipedia, we do not synthesise material, particularly when there is evidence to support the fact that the entire genre of music existed prior to Purandaradasar even being born. It's not disputed he's called the father of Carnatic music, primarily, for formulating the system of teaching Carnatic music which is still adopted. That does not equate to an exceptional unsupported claim that he created the entire genre of music as it is known today. Exceptional claims need exceptional sourcing, and that's what it comes down to. Reliable sources are a non-negotiable requirement, and if you can't be bothered checking, why are you here? You're not helping. This point is being settled at the RFC on the Carnatic music talk page. Ncmvocalist (talk) 07:13, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

It has been mentioned that satya dharma theertaru were pontiff of vyasa thirtha matha which is incorrect. Sri Satya Dharma Theertaru belonged to Uttaradhi Matha.

Meaning of terminology
editdaatu varase not tattu varase because "daatu" in Kannada means to cross or move from one to the next. In effect what daatu varase does is to cross from one set of swaras to the next. Errors of this nature result from the limitation of Tamil language where ta and da are written using the same script. Also, vaaggeyakara means composer not performer. The original word although derived from Sanskrit, is used in Kannada as well. - ... that Purandara Dasa, a 16th century Hindu saint from the Karnataka Haridasa tradition and the father of Carnatic music composed about 475,000 devotional songs in Sanskrit and Kannada? - Sigh, this is a fine detailed article but I see no 5-times expansion over 7 days before nominating, and many paragraphs are without citation. The set for 2 January is already made. My recommendation: source the remainder of the article and nominate as Good article (WP:GA) in November 2021 for 2 January 2022. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:29, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: I will start working on article and nominate to WP:GA. - MRRaja001 (talk) 09:46, 1 January 2021 (UTC)

- @Gerda Arendt: Okay, I'll nominate the DYK after the article becoming GA, Thank you. - MRRaja001 (talk) 18:27, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
