Shenjie/Shijie
editArrgh, the title with "Shenjie" is so frustrating. "Shijie" is obviously supposed to be a Chinese approximation of the local Tibetan dialect pronunciation of her name [ʂcəl] (the [ʂ] has become silent in Standard Tibetan). The character that is used 什 can be read shi or shen, but clearly the first was originally intended. However, news report seem to use the name Qieyang Shenjie primarily. That being the case, I have a hard time thinking how to justify a move to a move to a more accurate spelling.
Incidentally, the most common spelling of the Tibetan version of her name, Choeyang Kyi, is also a bit odd: it should be Chöying Kyi. "Choeyang" seems to mix the standard and Amdo pronunciations. I don't know what the source is for the Amdo dialect IPA pronunciation given, but it looks plausible.—Greg Pandatshang (talk) 05:13, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
- I agree entirely, 什 shen used as a transliteration character is always shi not shen, but unfortunately "reliable" sources such as London2012 give her name as "Shenjie", so I'm not sure there's much we can do about it at present. I suspect someone on the Chinese team got the pinyin wrong on her entry form. BabelStone (talk) 09:50, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
- In Rio and Tokyo, her name was listed as Shijie. I assume that Team China finally corrected the spelling on her identity document. Will make changes and page move. --阿pp (talk) 08:09, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

Qieyang Shenjie → Qieyang Shijie – This is name of a Chinese-Tibetan athlete who competed in 2012, 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games. Back in 2012, when Team China first registered her in the Olympics, the slightly incorrect spelling Qieyang Shenjie was used. Back in 2012 there was already discuss about spelling on the talk page, but due to WP:COMMONNAME the page was not moved. At present, the correct spelling Qieyang Shijie is becoming dominant on the internet and also in athletics-related database ([1] [2]), therefore I request this move per WP:COMMONNAME 阿pp (talk) 08:18, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
