Talk:RFL Championship

Latest comment: 3 years ago by Mn1548 in topic Title 2015-18

I added the see also section back into the page as I believe that part of its purpose is to guide people who aren't particularly knowledgeable about RL to related pages. I've changed which pages are included in the see also as the most of the ones which you removed are now unnecessary due to the templates and weren't particularly linked to the National Leagues.GordyB 00:09, 15 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Ok fair enough.Grinner 10:15, Dec 15, 2004 (UTC)

may be a reference should be made to the National Conference concerning Manchester and the Storm as from the way its written it makes it seem theyve folded when in fact they have only moved down a tier.

At the time this was written Manchester had just dropped out with no announcement as to their future, though I agree the South London Storm bit could have been clearer. Ditto changes that you made to the Conference Premier, when I wrote it it was what was planned but I didn't update it when the plans changed. Could you get yourself a sign-in name as it's a bit difficult talking to a range number.GordyB 19:42, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Split into seperate articles

edit

I think this should be split into two seperate articles, covering National League One and National League Two. Lord Cornwallis (talk) 02:48, 4 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I agree there should be two articles, any body against?Gpeilon (talk) 21:52, 25 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
I took the time to create the Championship One page, I will wait a bit for possible change/improvements, before splitting the current article for it to be focussed on the Championship. Gpeilon (talk) 10:40, 25 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
You might as well go ahead and be bold because nobody seems to have any objections.GordyB (talk) 20:39, 25 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
OK done! with some updates. Gpeilon (talk) 20:32, 26 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Competition and nationality

edit

The Co-operative championship was previously described as a competition in GB and France, I changed it to Europe. GordyB disagreed with this change and put instead UK as a "revert" arguing that it is a British competition. It certainly was and I understand GordyB's point of view, but with a French club in it and with the fact that it is clearly the second tier competition below the Super League Europe, it does not make sense really to present the competition as "British". I do not take the point about Toulouse being invited and not being there by right, it is exactly the same for Perpignan in the Super League, they certainly have no "right" to be there, they entered a competition to get a license and could lose it in three years in case of poor results. I suggest the following presentation to give the subtlety of the present evolution: "Originally the British National League One, the newly denominated Co-operative Championship has taken a European dimension with the inclusion of the French team Toulouse. The Co-operative Championship is now de facto the second tier competition in Europe below the Super League."

Given this evolution it also makes sense to split the page in two articles as the Championship One is clearly strictly national. Gpeilon —Preceding undated comment added 22:08, 4 March 2009 (UTC).Reply

Super League (Europe) was always designated a pan-European competition; it was even given a "European" name. British and French flags I can tolerate for the Co-operative Championship because those countries have teams in the competition but it is not a "European" league. Secondly the French Elite One is still up and running and generally held to be of higher standard than Championship 1 and Elite One teams are still entitled to be promoted to SL. I think designating Co-Operative Championship as the second tier of European rugby unnecessarily talks down the French championship. It's very much POV.GordyB (talk) 09:17, 5 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
I understand what you say, however the current presentation is not really satisfying. With a French team in the Championship, the championship is not strictly British any more. What happens if Toulouse wins the Championship? Will we consider Toulouse as the "British champion"? Also, the initial presentation stressed on "England and France" while now it is said "UK" while no Welsh, Scottish or Northern Irish team participate. Finally, the Co-operative is really the only second tier of the Super League Europe as it is only with this championship that there is a relegation-promotion scheduled to exist. I do not think that the wording I proposed was deprecating toward the French Elite 1, but just stating a fact. To take into account your concern for neutrality what about this more moderate presentation: "The Co-operative Championship was originally the English National League One. With the inclusion of a French team in 2009 (Toulouse) it has taken a more European dimension and has changed its denomination. It acts as the second tier competition below the Super League." Gpeilon (talk) 16:51, 6 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
This is better. GordyB (talk) 17:15, 6 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
OK, I changed it Gpeilon (talk) 01:33, 8 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Adding radio coverage

edit

It would be useful to add the radio stations which cover the matches of their local teams.Gpeilon (talk) 21:54, 25 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Championship (rugby league)RFL Championship – The current title of "Championship (rugby league)" is not an adequate WP:DISAMBIGUATION since it could refer to any rugby league championship around the world. However, with there already being adequate disambiguation to refer to the pre-1996 competition under the name of 'Rugby Football League Championship First Division', the most accurate name for this article is "RFL Championship" since that is what it is, and is the highest championship directly awarded by the RFL proper (compare with EFL Championship in soccer and RFU Championship in rugby union). –DA1 (talk) 12:40, 2 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

All the editions between 2009 and 2017 are already titled under 'RFL Championship', except for 2018 for some reason. DA1 (talk) 21:01, 2 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Title 2015-18

edit

How were the champions determined between 2015 and 2018 as this page uses league leaders for 15, 16, and 17, and million pound game for 18. On the Million Pound Game page it says that match is a continuation of the grand final so should not that be used? I can find no external sources to verify any of it. Thankyou.
