Potential Reorganization?
editWith the relaunch of the Rampart line on May 19th, it makes this article somewhat muddy. First of all, NORTA announced that the UPT-Riverfront arrangement is still in effect which means that the Union Passenger Terminal is now served by 2 routes: 46 Rampart-Loyola and 49 Loyola-Riverfront. Second of all, the line colors have been changed—according to this map and document:https://www.norta.com/getmedia/5af0729a-d537-4ea3-8280-48dd7a72c05b/Streetcars_12,-46,-47,-48,-49.pdf—so that 46 Rampart-Loyola is purple (#b94bbc) and Loyola-Riverfront is blue (#556eb4). I hear however that 49 is temporary and will be discontinued when the riverfront line fully reopens. So is an update in order? Tape fanatic 007 (talk) 17:19, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
- Seems to me that the actual situation, of two lines serving UPT, should be mentioned. The blue color for the 49 is the color used for Riverfront. My guess is that you're correct, that the 49 is temporary until the Riverfront is able to resume its full route. But who knows what RTA may decide to do. I don't really understand what is taking so long to get the full Riverfront line back in service. HGFriedman (talk) 17:31, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
- From what I understand, and based on what a streetcar driver, one of the factors for the Rampart lines long slumber was getting parts for the overhead wires. Maybe a similar thing is happening with the riverfront since when I ventured down there, a section of the overhead line was missing. Tape fanatic 007 (talk) 19:02, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
- I guess that makes sense. But all that track did have overhead wire. What became of the hardware when it was taken down? You'd think RTA would have stashed it for re-use. It can't all have been unusable. HGFriedman (talk) 20:06, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
- Update: according to a board member, route 49 is permanent until further notice. Tape fanatic 007 (talk) 14:05, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for passing along the word. HGFriedman (talk) 14:10, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
