"Broadcaster Ray Gosling admits mercy killing" - BBC
editThis might be useful as a reference: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/nottinghamshire/8516499.stm 86.143.54.10 (talk) 20:16, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
- Suggest added the year the investigation? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Excusesofpuppets (talk • contribs) 09:20, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
- It has only been investigated this month, due to Gosling's claim / admission. Prior to that, no-one knew he euthanised anyone. The death of the man in question would probably have been wrongly recorded as having been caused by AIDS. Lkjhgfdsa 0 (talk) 19:31, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
Birth details
editIt seems very difficult to track down reliable details about his early life. This article currently says he was born in Chester, as do many other sites (probably mostly copying this one) - but some sites, and The Guardian 's obit say Northampton. Looking through birth records on Ancestry.com, there doesn't appear to be anyone called either Ray or Raymond Gosling born in either Chester or Northampton in 1939 - but, there was a Raymond A Gosling, born in Brixworth, Northamptonshire, in April-June 1939 - mother's maiden name Chandler. A possible match - but a primary source, and not reliable unless it can be corroborated elsewhere. Ghmyrtle (talk) 10:50, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
- Quite likely to be the subject as Brixworth is only 5 miles from Northampton and has Northampton as its postal address (all according to the WP article). Enough to drop the current attribution to Chester, I think. Philip Cross (talk) 13:19, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
- ...but, WP:PRIMARY: "Any interpretation of primary source material requires a reliable secondary source for that interpretation." I think we need more evidence. The idea that he was born in Chester seems to originate from this source, in this edit. Ghmyrtle (talk) 13:54, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
- The Independent say his birthplace was Northampton too - http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/profiles/ray-gosling-the-outcast-8181573.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brookie (talk • contribs) 14:15, 20 November 2013
- They must have got the info from somewhere. I agree we should change it. Ghmyrtle (talk) 14:29, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
- PS: Interestingly, the Telegraph says he was born in Chester but brought up in Weston Favell, Northampton - a few miles from Brixworth. Maybe we should add a footnote, pointing out that sources differ on the point of his actual birthplace. Ghmyrtle (talk) 09:45, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
