Talk:Reeve Aleutian Airways

Irrelevant info.

edit

I have deleted the following information from the article

  • Information on the models - this is a hobbyist thing and has nothing to do with the operations or history of the airline
  • Information on an article in Airliners magazine. This is a hobbyist magazine with a narrow distribution and very limited readership. Whilst the article may have raised awareness of the airline within the aviation enthusiast community, and prompted maybe 1 or 2 spotters to fly to Alaska to fly on the airline, these facts are quite irrelevant to the article. --Russavia 18:02, 3 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Expanded

edit

Article has been greatly expanded. Need to add details of fleet, disposals etc in the period after c1990, any other accidents etc. Destinations needs sorting out, Reeve Aleutian did operate interstate services on occasion. Mjroots (talk) 22:02, 5 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Construction numbers for N3785B and N5453E needed. Mjroots (talk) 10:29, 6 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

B Class review

edit

There is an airline infobox available which would fill the page out a bit, there is one at British Airways for example. Nimbus227 (talk) 13:24, 6 January 2008 (UTC)  DoneMjroots (talk) 15:09, 6 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ooops! Just noticed it needs promoting to 'Start' class first (although there is no reason why it can't go straight to B class), start class checklist below:
Does the article have:

  • A particularly useful picture or graphic?
No, desperately needs some pictures and an airline infobox will fill the blank space.  Done Picture of each type of aircraft operated added except Helio-Courier H-250.
  • Multiple links that help explain or illustrate the topic?
Yes.
  • A subheading that fully treats an element of the topic?
Yes
  • Multiple subheadings that indicate material that could be added to complete the article?
Comment:Destinations could be expanded.  Done But they need ckecking to make sure they are all in correct place. I'm not an expert on Alaska. Mjroots (talk) 16:37, 6 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Cheers and hope that helps. Nimbus227 (talk) 13:44, 6 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I put up the b-class checklist in the banner. I only have two issues: 1) the history is mainly referenced by one source, "Flying Beats Work". That's not really a problem, but a little variety would be helpfull. 2)The headers need some nesting. Perhaps a main "History" header and move a bunch to subheaders. - Trevor MacInnis (Contribs) 15:18, 8 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Oh, and a lot of pictures is good, but since none of the pictures are actually of Reeve aircraft, I'd drop most of them out of the main article, maybe limit them to the Fleet section. - Trevor MacInnis (Contribs) 15:20, 8 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Non-Reeve aircraft are used to illustrate the type. Aim is to get as many Reeve aircraft as is possible, and hopefully a picture of each indivual aircraft in the fleet section, rather than a generic picture there. Have started this with the YS-11 and 727. The G-21 Goose may well be an ex-Reeve aircraft. Mjroots (talk) 08:59, 9 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Individual aircraft histories have been sourced rom various sources, and the info has then been incorporated into the main text. I ought to have added the refs into the main text too. Refs from the accident section have now been added to main text.Mjroots (talk) 11:29, 9 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Another reassessment for Reeve Aleutian Airways

edit
  • Add "Wisconsin" in front of "Hall of Fame" reference
  • What type of Beechcraft was purchesed in 1946? 3rd para in the Founding section.
Not specified, FBW says "Reeve bought a twin-engine Beechcraft and a Lockheed Electra 10-B." The Electra is known to have been c/n 1054 (one earlier than Amy Johnson's Electra - illustrated in article) but the Beechcraft is not identified. Likely to have been a Model 18 ex-USAAF).
I would be more than happy to assist you in some of these changes. Respectfully submitted, LanceBarber (talk) 23:26, 13 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Mj, To your question on Redlining Boreas Corp... not sure, depending on the significance of the Corp in history or still in business. Can not answer that. I'll do some surfing on the corp. cheers....Lance LanceBarber (talk) 21:56, 14 January 2008 (UTC)... links above. LanceBarber (talk) 22:12, 14 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I've upped it to B-class. There are a lot of references, but they seem to be grouped together at the end of paragraphs. Could they be spread out a bit? For example; the second paragraph in "Expansion" has 8 references, which I'm sure are different references to dates and aircraft throughout the paragraph, but I can't tell which ref is for which fact. If a ref is for a specific sentence, it should be immediately after it, and not at the end of the paragraph. - Trevor MacInnis (Contribs) 15:31, 14 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Huh

edit

This sentence in the article:

Late in 2001, Reeve Aleutian ceased operations on December 5 2000 and about 250 people were declared redundant.

makes no sense, at least chronologically. Hope someone who knows the facts will correct it. Unschool 03:37, 15 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

I've removed the first three words. It should make sense now. Mjroots (talk) 06:39, 24 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Reminiscences

edit

I can't add my fond memories of flying with Reeve Aleutian Airways in the main article - so I thought I might be excused if I added them here, as I think they might be of some interest to aficionados.

I was stationed in Sandpoint, Alaska for the fishing season of 1963 doing fisheries research for the International Pacific Halibut Commission. At that time Reeve's had a flight into Sandpoint from Anchorage every 3 weeks (weather permitting) to drop off the mail and sometimes a rather frozen passenger. I flew on them several times and was never sure which was worse, the DC-3 (where you had the thrill of watching the masts of fishing boats appear suddenly outside through the fog as the pilot wove between them), or the C-47 where you couldn't see out at all.

I remember having to fold one's seat up when they landed and help pass freight held in a big net at the rear of the aircraft up to the rear of the aircraft to be unloaded, and then put your seat down again for another long haul with no heat. There was a stewardess (as we called them in those days), in a red, fur-trimmed parka and with fur-trimmed boots who passed around something in a brown paper bag which I soon discovered was a bottle of cheap whiskey which we all took turns at guzzling (no separate cups or any such luxuries!). Sure did help with the cold! Well, just thought I should share those few memories with you all, and hope they give you a hint of what it was like travelling on a pioneering airline in those days. Maybe someone else can add some more fond memories. All best wishes, John Hill (talk) 12:44, 24 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Disposal of N1651M

edit

This aircraft was sold in early- or mid-1973, not 1974. I recall working on the airplane just prior to Fairbanks Air Service taking possession. I watched them taxi the airplane away from the hangar to the runway and take off. I left the airline in fall 1973. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.223.130.237 (talk) 05:02, 14 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Downgrade to C

edit

Parts of the article need a lot of work on Grammar and Style, particularly Prose in the history section.Petebutt (talk) 20:57, 11 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

In particular, the article is way too focused (to the point of representing undue weight) on extraneous details of the aircraft itself, perhaps at the expense of mentioning anything else. The photos are also all of aircraft. There should be photos to be had out there somewhere of Reeve facilities such as hangars, terminal facilities, Reeve's office building in downtown Anchorage, etc.RadioKAOS (talk) 21:15, 13 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Italic destinations

edit

Could anyone (especially Mjroots since you added the list) clarify what the italics in the #Destinations section signify? Ibadibam (talk) 06:46, 16 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Ibadibam: - I created that article a long time ago. Can't think why they are there. Go ahead and remove them. Mjroots (talk) 06:53, 16 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Bases, maybe? Ibadibam (talk) 06:56, 16 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
