Needs more reliable sources

While the article cites several sources, some of the sources aren't reliable. The first source is from Stack Exchange, which uses user-generated content. The second is an Indeed blog article, and the third also appears to be a blog article. It would be great to have more reliable sources, such as news articles from well-known sites. @Mako001: Thank you for examining Relieving letter. While I agree that it is similar to a Letter of recommendation, I don't think it is the same. A LoR is something that exists in many work cultures (in different forms), and focuses on describing an employees work and performance. While this can also be part of a Relieving letter, a RL specifically certifies that an employee was "relieved" of their duties. That is specific to Indian work culture, so IMHO deserves an article of its own. Sebastian (talk) 10:56, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

I still don't think that this is best presented as a standalone article (I.e have an entire article for the topic). Many topics which might deserve an article of their own are instead presented as part of a larger, broader article.

The topic is still broadly the same as LoR, and it will be generally better to keep this as part of the larger article until it becomes large enough that a WP:SPLIT is needed. You say that the LoR exists in many cultures and in different forms, but wouldn't a RL just be another form of LoR, where it is also specified that the employee is relieved of their duties?

You could basically keep all the content that is here, and wouldn't need to cut it back, though a bit of rephrasing and other minor work to integrate it with the larger article would be needed if a merge takes place. Mako001 (C)  (T)  🇺🇦 07:48, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

Ok, so you propose to integrate the content here into Letter of recommendation? That may make sense, maybe as a separate subsection. It's a bit tricky, because there are many different forms of such "letters", depending on context and culture - a German "Arbeitszeugnis" is very different from a US "recommendation letter" written by a professor. I may have time in a few days, then I'll try merging the contents of this page into LoR, and change this page to a redirect. What do you thing? Sebastian (talk) 12:55, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

Sounds good. Since no single country has a section of its own yet, it might be better to split the article up and distribute it to the most relevant sections. Some content (not much though) would become redundant, as it would duplicate content which is already present in the article, so should be left off to avoid unnecessary repetition. Any citations you have that could back up existing content in the main article would be appreciated though, and could be added.

The second paragraph could be transferred without much alteration into the "Duty to provide a reference" section. All that you would need to do would be to add "In India, a letter of recommendation is referred to as a "relieving letter", a "service certificate" or "experience certificate"" to the start, and add the detail that the relieving letter is (as I understand from this article) only given when an employee resigns, as opposed to being fired. I think it would fit just before "In the United Kingdom...". The only other thing would be to add something to the "Content" section like:

• Specifies that the employee voluntarily resigned their position [citation goes here]

Maybe sometime the article will be expanded significantly and there will be separate sections detailing the various forms that an LoR can take depending on culture.
