The statement is not true

Ghatak's stature among Bengali directors is probably second only to that of Satyajit Ray.

The statement is not true, many bangali film lover consider Ghatak's stature equal to or even higher than Ray's for his greater genius. It may proper to rewrite as Ghatak's stature is considered equal to only that of Satyajit Ray--Gokul 12:42, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

A small technical error

A small technical error, Ritwik Ghatak was born in Dhaka in East Bengal (now Bangladesh). Well, he was born in Bengal ... East Bengal existed as an entity was only between (1905-1911), (1947-1954). --Ragib 21:39, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

Ghatak and commercial cinema

The article gave the impression that art cinema was all there was to Indian cinema. I gave a link to the main Indian cinema article and elaborated on Ghatak's outsider status.

I believe that he was very much part of the Calcutta left-leaning or Communist art scene. I know very little about those folks, so someone else would have to write it, but I think some mention of that milieu would also help put him in perspective. I hope that doesn't sound as if I'm condemning all those folks; I don't share their views, but I think it should be possible to write an NPOV overview of the Calcutta bohemians. First of all he left the communist party in the 60s even after the requests of then chief minister of not doing so and also his critique of ipta and naxalite movement created resent but yes he disliked market domination and borgeoise frameworks of mind and life Samx don (talk) 09:50, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

Like promised, I'll work on this article by adding info and references, but unfortunately I won't have time before the 10th of this month. In my opinion, it needs to be referenced if we want to get it to FA status (which would be nice). Jukti Takka

the translation of the name jukti takka aar gappa should not be reason, debate and a story as it was. since the literal bengali name means only reason, debate and story. this is important since the narrative style of the film itself is very different from a story telling cinema. In bengali the name "jukti takka aar gappa" is also has the allusion that the cinema of this name is going to comment on these (reason, debate and story ), but adding an A will ruin it and transform the allusion into : reason , debate and a story, and cinema is going to comment or depict this perticular story. Dubious: Padma Shri and Ritwik Ghatak

I am not very sure if Government took back Padma Shri award from Ritwik Ghatak, see this article.. here too they have not clearly mentioned whether the award was taken back. In Indian Government website's Padma Shri list using advanced search, I could not find the name of Ritwik Ghatak/Ritwik Kumar Ghatak in the list. • I did find ASIN 8187075554. It specifies Ray as translator, not editor; there's a huge difference. If Ritwik Ghatak is actually the author of the three entries above (and Ray is the translator), then the three entries should be rewritten;

• If the original language of the three entries is not English, we can more easily find the ISBNs with bibliographical information written in the original characters.
