Information about recent sex abuse controversies should be backed up with more relevant sources. Also, the article about the diocese may not be the ideal place to insert such content, given that specialized articles such as Sexual abuse scandal in Boston archdiocese are perhaps better suited to handle these types of affairs. Under Bishop Skylstad the diocese declared bankruptcy to protect it from claims of people molested by priests. The Diocese of Spokane as part of its bankruptcy has agreed to pay at least US$48 million as compensation to people abused by priests. This payout has to be agreed with by the victims and a Judge before it will be made.[1] According to Federal Bankruptcy Judge Gregg W. Zive, money for the settlement would come from insurance companies, the sale of church property, contributions from Catholic groups and from the diocese's parishes.[1]
The fact that the diocese declared bankruptcy doesn't belong in the article??? So, this article is about nothing, right? Just list the names and move along, nothing to see here. I'm putting back that stuff. I mean that the diocese had to sell off church property and ask for money isn't worth mentioning when talking about it? If you want to make it "fair and balanced" then add more history about the diocese, you can add lots of "good" stuff about how they hold festivals to feed the poor and so on, but please don't remove fact for no reason. Perhaps, but talking only about sex abuse isn't neutral and could even deserve an NPOV tag. It would be a good idea to add more sources so that the bankruptcy doesn't get used as a means to attack the diocese. Also, the diocese is not defined as just the administators and the clergy, it also includes all the laity, and so saying that the whole diocese is linked to the sex abuse affairs is technically inacurrate.
