Verb tense
editWhy the past tense in "It was home to..." Aren't the Jarawa still there? -- Jmabel | Talk 22:48, Apr 1, 2005 (UTC)
- No. According to Weber, of the indigenous people who were noted to occupy the interior of the island by mid-1800s British surveys (the Jangil, also called Rutland Jarawa since it was supposed that they were related the Jarawa, but also may have been related to the Onge and Sentinelese), very few interactions are documented, with only three or four actual sightings up to the early 20th C. Last contact was made in 1907, and in the 1920s further expeditions found no trace of them. Onge and Great Andamanese groups also apparently had fishing camps on the island at times, but these days the island is entirely given over to non-indigenous populations.--cjllw | TALK 01:13, 15 September 2005 (UTC)
