Seeking clarity

edit

Hello @CNMall41:.

I noticed your recent edit and would like to seek some clarity before proceeding further. My primary contributions have been to sailing yacht pages, with limited edits elsewhere, hence my desire to comprehend your rationale behind this addition.

Chip Merlin, being the current owner, plays a significant role with this vessel. Is it inappropriate to include information about him as an individual here? If this is not the suitable place, could you kindly advise on the correct venue for such details?

Wikipedia is not here to promote Chip Merlin and that page was already deleted pursuant to a deletion discussion. The page for S/V Merlin is also about the boat, not Chip Merlin. See WP:COATRACKING].--CNMall41 (talk) 20:41, 11 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Understood. Good to know. So, content about the S/V Merlin should be included here and content about Chip Merlin should be included on his page. I found his page, here. However, it looks as though this isn't a normal Wikipedia page. I also found this 'discussion' where an editor said the following: 'Editors are welcome to selectively merge content from the history of the article to the target.' Is that not what I have done? What is the alternative here if you're saying this information should not be included on this page? Thank you for your guidance on this complicated platform. That page was deleted as he is not notable for Wikipedia. The term "selectively" is right. The information you added is coatracking (see link provided above in previous comment). I actually cleaned up this page after the deletion discussion so any information that could be moved would have already been moved. However, I believe a lot of information was removed based on not having sources that supported or other various reasons (see the edit comments in the edit history section). --CNMall41 (talk) 05:26, 17 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Interesting. I greatly appreciate your feedback and timely responses on this as I continue to learn more about this platform. Coatracking is certainly not my intention. You mentioned that Chip Merlin is not 'notable' for Wikipedia. Is this based on the previous discussion that we mentioned earlier? In my efforts on this page, I have come across a lot of information about Chip Merlin online, and he seems to be an accomplished individual. A lot of what I am finding was not included in the previous iteration of his draft. If I wanted your feedback or the greater community's feedback on that information, where should I input this/these new submission/citations/information? I believe this individual may necessitate a Wikipedia page at this point in time. CrimsonGrove (talk) 14:38, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Feedback was provided in the deletion discussion. He is not notable. Not sure how else I can assist you. --CNMall41 (talk) 19:40, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Understood. I would like to get involved in this discussion as I have now done a lot of research on Chip Merlin (thanks to his ownership of this vessel) and would like to try my hand at creating a Wikipedia page. I'd imagine a platform like this would allow for additional discussions after an initial ruling, yes? I am operating under the assumption that the feedback was based on the information included in that previous draft. With this in mind, I will do some additional research on methods to restart the discussion with some of the new articles I have discovered. Thank you again for all your help in navigating this platform. CrimsonGrove (talk) 18:43, 24 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
In the meantime, please read WP:COI and WP:PAID and make the appropriate disclosure if applicable. --CNMall41 (talk) 19:07, 24 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have read through the aforementioned guidelines. No I am not being paid to do this nor do I have a 'conflict of interest'. I understand your concern, but I feel as though this is the wrong way to treat users that are trying to contribute to the platform. I mentioned my intentions in this very conversation. I would have appreciated more guidance from an esteemed community member such as yourself rather than a one-off message about disclosing appropriate information on this platform. Regardless, I will continue to learn this platform on my own, and I will pursue my interests. Thank you again for your time, and I hope that in the future you are more welcoming to those who would like to better Wikipedia. CrimsonGrove (talk) 17:40, 29 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I am not sure what type of response you are looking for here. I asked a question. That simple. If you feel I have been unwelcoming, I would suggest reporting my conduct at the WP:ANI.--CNMall41 (talk) 10:17, 30 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
