Re Abdali/Durrani and Sadozai
editThere seemed to be some confusion regarding the Abdali/Durrani tribe, and its various sections, in this article, which I have tried to amend for the sake of clarity and accuracy. It is quite true that today, some of these clans (eg the Muhammadzai, Barakzai, Sadozai etc) have grown very large indeed and are almost small 'tribes' in themelves, but when we talk in historical contexts, we must remember that when Sado Khan, Habibzai Abdali, was around, this certainly wasnt the case. Griffin (and later Griffin and Massey's revision) does have this basic flaw, that it isnt very clear on most Pashtun tribes and khels/clans/sections, and heyre better on Punjabi tribes and clans. One would strongly recommend please, that additional writers who are more experienced on the Pashtuns/Afghans should kindly be consulted, too, eg such as (a) Muhammad Hyat Khan, Hyat-i-Afghan (orig Persian and Urdu, 1865; Eng trans by Priestley 1874); (b) Major RTI Ridgway, The Pathans (Recruiting Report, for the Government of India, Calcutta, c 1910) and even (c) Sir Olaf Caroes (The Pathans, 1959). There is another very fine book, which gives a good account of the exact descent of the Sadozai, by Sahibzada Nur Muhammad Shah Kohistani, Nur i Kohistan (Lahore 1957) but sadly, this is only available as yet in urdu. The basic geneaology goes something like this, according to all of these listed above:
1. Quais Baba/ Abdur Rashid
2. Sarban
3. Sharkabun (Sharfudin)
4. Tarin == sons, Tor, Spin, Bor/Abdal
5. From Bor/Abdal Tarin (the Abdali)sprang 2 sons, (a) Zirak and (b) Panjpai-- and these were the actual progenitors of all the Abdalis/Durranis, and their various clans and septs etc.
I hope this is helpful, please, v best regs, Khani100 (talk) 18:37, 16 April 2012 (UTC)Khani100
