I deleted the last sentence of the opening paragraph, "Now, the opinion which should return Karafuto (Sakhalin) and the Chishima Islands to Japan and to carry out is also the world," as it seems like a poorly translated tag to the paragraph--TKE

Nothing on Culture
editI would like to see a subcategory or discussion on the culture of Sakhalin.
It’s alarming that we have info on their economy and transportation and resources but nothing on the local daily culture and lifestyles and values of the people. This seems important for global education as the media doesn’t cover this region and yet it’s such a massive economic driver and island. 133.159.150.116 (talk) 06:15, 26 October 2023 (UTC)
Western Gray Whale
editA very small point, but I didn't want to make a change since a hyperlink is involved, but according to the IUCN, the subpopulation of the Western Gray Whale that feeds off the coast of the island has rebounded sufficiently to be moved from the "critically endangered" list to the "endangered" list. Unactioned hidden text
editThe following was left in the article as hidden text by User:Geographyinitiative four years ago (original locations can be seen here), and has not been actioned since.
in defiance of the Qing and Japanese claims (hidden because this is not in the source, nor is it clear that their actions were a "defiance" unless we have a source explaining that)
including Sakhalin (the pages for Treaty of Aigun and Convention of Peking do not include the word Sakhalin)
Please address if possible. BD2412 T 01:46, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
