Lead

The lead is a succinct overview of a Korean shamanic narrative recited in southern Jeju Island about a female goddess who subverts traditional patriarchal expectations of women. It has an ethical element of worship and respect for the goddess and the good/bad karma elicited by actions and belief. The Goddess is said to "change destiny by determining the shape of human lives according to the mindset that they have."
Narrative

This is a simple summary of a religious myth which exists in 13 known versions, from oral narrative and chanting. This narrative was recorded in print in 1980 and is called the exemplary version. It concludes with divine self revelation,
"I have come into the human world to take charge of human destiny [jeonsang]. When you lived as rich people, it was because I was there.
Ritual context and religious significance

The final paragraph detailing the work of Folklorist Kim Young-suk is a brilliant summary of the purpose of this bon-puri (and by extension other bon-puri) and the human understanding and relationships born from the Gut ritual and its narratives. The key religious context is captured: human destiny, the narrative of the goddess, the felicitation of the goddess by the narrative and establishment of relations with the divine in the mortal world. Well scribed.

It is interesting to read that the shamanic worldview and the story of this goddess is at odds with the mainstream Confucian virtue of filial piety. The narrative itself has the goddess engaging in deleterious behaviour towards her parents and her sisters; and the other brothers of the new family. Nonetheless, the shamanic narrative exists to reveal shamanic definitions of righteous conduct, thus drawing this bon-puri closer to the Buddhist dharma and the general meaning of dharma as righteous conduct. A good conclusion, nonetheless at odds with Neo-Confucianism.
Feminist interpretations

A very convincing feminist narrative is given with the cycle of the three bon-puri recitations in the Great Gut. It is interesting that the article begins with the linea nigra and returns to the full cycle of linea nigra as the symbol of woman's life-giving power. This section is a clear, easily comprehensible examination of feminist narrative within religious narrative.

Is it is Broad in its coverage?
editYes, the section on Mainland and cross-cultural connections shows how widespread the narrative of the third daughter and her fortunes and the misfortunes of her family / father is with both religious context and mundane, non-religious context. I am left with a feeling that the section Ritual context and religious significance might benefit from an additional explanation of bon-puri from here. A simple expansion would suffice.
