XML vs XML?
edit«The current file format, called SLA, is XML. Old versions of SLA were based on XML. » In what they differ? Maybe a typo? Anonymous 14:00, 22 October 2020 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.187.12.7 (talk)
Ghost Script?
editDo you have to have Ghost Script in order for Scribus to work? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.252.132.138 (talk • contribs) 2006-08-09T14:47:25 (UTC)
- Scribus uses ghostscript for PDF exporty or can run it without. -(someone wrote sometime) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.184.78.121 (talk • contribs) 2006-09-16T10:01:17 (UTC)
"Install Ghostscript before installing Scribus. Ghostscript 8.54+ or newer is recommended. This is important for EPS,PS import and printing. Note: The correct .exe name for Ghostscript is gswin32c.exe, not gswin32.exe. Setting this properly will avoid error messages on start up and Scribus will auto-detect Ghostscript's location on install."[1]--69.87.204.5 14:45, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
Scribus works without Ghostscript, but the following features will be unavailable:
- importing EPS or PS
- using EPS, PS or PDF in imageframes
- print preview
InDesign
editDoes anybody know how the compatibility with InDesign is as far as file types and layout support? --Taylor 13:59, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
Cannot import Quark, InDesign
edit- Why are there no import filters for Quark, Indesign or other commercial DTP applications?
- Because it would be too hard technically, and there are legal issues.[2]
- So, how can I work with others who might have other DTP applications?
- "Use EPS, SVG or PDF as an exchange format. Scribus created PDFs can be easily imported into a number of commerical applications. SVG import is excellent for vector artwork. Scribus can import EPS files as long as they are conformant to the specs - this includes spot colors in DCS 2.0 files. The documentation has detailed notes covering these subjects."[3]--69.87.204.5 15:20, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
- Legal issues, you are wrong as Open Office would be in trouble for the ability to import Microsoft Office documents. Corel for Corel Paint Shop Pro's ability to import photoshop documents etc. Cartoonborg
- Even if it is legal, the Scribus team would need money to defend against a claim from e.g Quark
- That is an stupid excuse. Blender 3D does since ages. The FSF privdes legal defense. You cannot protect file format reading, another urban legend. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.10.81.245 (talk) 23:46, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
Windows 2000/XP only
edit"Windows 98 and ME have not been tested and are not supported. Any and all bug reports relating to Windows 9X/ME will be closed quickly. Why? There are many functions in Scribus which depend on features available only on Windows 2000 or Windows XP."[4]--69.87.204.5 14:53, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
- Does anyone know if Windows 9x has ever been supported by any older version of Scribus? If so, please add to the table as "Last version to support Windows 98 and Me". I have seen the statement on the website but not clear if this means "ever" or just "recent versions". 81.159.194.55 (talk) 22:32, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
How can I add extra margins?
editIs it possible to add extra margins to a finished pdf file? I need those for printing. Keijo — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.181.120.80 (talk • contribs) 2007-03-08T02:01:00 (UTC)
High end
editWhat exactly are the "high end" features that this app has that are similar to the industry standard Quark and InDesign??? I've not heard of any "professional" designers using this program at all. My take has been that Scribus is more or less in line with Publisher, Pages or other similar DIY layout apps? And if so, why is this program always listed in graphic design articles here on wikipedia as being "similar"? 66.90.162.101 17:48, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
- color management, CMYK, PDF/X3, layers, text flow around (shaped) frame(s), drop shadows, scripting, styles etc.
- Feel free to supplement List_of_desktop_publishing_software with a Comparison_of_desktop_publishing_software--Hhielscher 19:51, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
Weblinks
editWith roughly 15 Weblinks this article is more a link list than anything else. You should clean it to bring it down to the 4 or 5 most important links + one link to a link database. --141.35.185.149 14:20, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
Limits Missing Features
editThe article needs to highlight the limits and missing features of the program similar to the Gimp Article. Cartoonborg (talk) 09:41, 25 May 2007 (UTC-5)
Fair use rationale for Image:Scribus logo.png
editImage:Scribus logo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:15, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
LiveCD?
editIt is helpful to know which LiveCDs contain an application, to be able to try it out. It seems that Puppy Linux has Scribus. Any other? -69.87.202.45 00:49, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
Will Scribus ever have native support for editing PDFs? -69.87.202.45 00:50, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
- This is not planned for the near future, see roadmap. You might want to use the right tool for the right job: PDFedit.--Hhielscher 10:28, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
Proportional Fonts
editThe article says, "PDFs exported from Scribus are not searchable in Acrobat Reader if the document contains proportional fonts." and that sentence has two citations. However, I don't see any mention of this problem in either of the links. Can someone clarify this or remove the claim? Superm401 - Talk 08:18, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
That statement is wrong. Up to Scribus 1.3.3.x, when the user selected "outline/subset font", the font was converted to PDF objects which made the text non searchable. Recent Scribus versions instead create a PDF Type 3 font with a matching ToUnicodeMap and that makes the PDF searchable.Andreas.vox (talk) 13:16, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

- I didn't see this comment but just wanted to say I have done just this (though not exactly the format you were suggesting here) and have renamed from "Milestones" to the more-common "Release History" (after-all, from version 1.3.3.7 there aren't any notable milestones to speak of -- maybe someone would like to add more information?). Hope you all like!
