Ownership of "Gone With the Wind" - passing to MGM in 1944

Walloon, you are probably correct about ownership of Gone With the Wind passing to MGM in 1944. "GWTW" has a complex history. As I understand it, in 1939, the film was owned by Selznick International Pictures, but MGM owned the distribution rights in order to obtain the services of Clark Gable. Ownership of the film itself may have transferred to MGM in 1944.

The sale of GWTW by Selznick International to Jock Whitney and his sister in 1943, and their sale of it to MGM in 1944, was widely reported in the press. Not so complicated. — Walloon (talk) 15:53, 26 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
