Refugees
In 1978 Khama was awarded the Nansen Refugee Award for assisting refugees. I assume this is in reference to people escaping the war in Rhodesia: I know unofficially that the British Council were instrumental in funnelling refugees through Botswana, often to the UK where they were then offered further/higher education. Be nice to track something down on this, as it had a huge positive impact on Zimbabwe's supply of professionals (teachers, engineers, healthcare professionals...) after independence, as people returned from abroad. Agressive
"...trapped between the aggressive white minority governments of apartheid South Africa and Rhodesia, most observers believed that Botswana would have little choice but to become a satellite state to one or the other.[citation needed]..." You'd have to prove that any of these governments was aggressive toward peaceful neighbours at all. --41.208.223.213 (talk) 20:47, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
Nationality
I don't want to sound dumb, and I realize there are similar words like governor/gubernatorial, etc. But on the page under Nationality you have "Motswana". Is this really what it is called (could be) or just a mistype of "Botswana"? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bistritapcv2 (talk • contribs) 00:23, 10 June 2017 (UTC)
- "Motswana" is the singular form of Botswana - that is, a Tswana person. This is a common prefixing practice involving Bantu language groups across Central Africa. Same works for Muluba/Baluba for the Luba people of the Congo. -Indy beetle (talk) 16:31, 24 September 2021 (UTC)
