Portrait

edit

I've removed a portrait of Servilia. There is no evidence in its description on commons that it bears any relationship to what she actually looked like (assuming we know that). I do not see how adding such a picture can be useful. Her hair was unlikely to be red at any rate. Francis Davey (talk) 12:50, 9 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

It has no place in the article. I don't know how it could have been added in the first place. T8612 (talk) 13:50, 9 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

This page says that Servilia's husband was M. Junius Brutus, which conflicts with the page for M. Junius Brutus (the assassin), which says his parents were Servilia and Decimus Junius Brutus.

Not sure where you saw that but the younger Marcus Junius Brutus’s parents were his father of the same name and Servilia ExtravagAunt (talk) 17:21, 26 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Decimus Junius Brutus Callaicus

edit

The Decimus Junius Brutus Callaicus referred to here is not the right one. 20:39, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

HBO's Rome

edit

I'm a fan of the show too, but I think putting a photo of the actor who played Servilia in the TV Series isn't appropriate. I'm not even sure mentioning HBO's Rome would be appropriate at all if this article was more finished. Servilia was the Hilary Clinton of her day and it would be great if someone bettered this article. -BiancaOfHell 21:52, 22 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

-The problem is that this is basically all the information we have on Servilia, from the sources anyway. LaurenCole 01:27, 23 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I could get you more information because I have access to some of Cicero's translated letters which mention her frequently but only around the 46 BC - 43 BC mark and either about Brutus' marriage to Porcia or Caesar's death. I'm not sure if it would be much of an improvement. --82.34.129.154 00:39, 3 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
If you have it, please add it! Thanks LaurenCole 19:06, 4 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I did a little bit of editing. I'll keep sorting it out and adding the sources before there may not be a lot about her in history, other than the fact she was Brutus' mother and Caesar's lover, but Cicero does mention her a lot. --Sophie-Lou 12:32, 7 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Timeline

edit

Who died first? This article state Servilia died in 43BC; but before her death, she had received Brutus ashes. Now in a link to Brutus, it states that he died in 42BC. So my question is how can Servilia receive Brutus ashes before Brutus death? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.12.69.13 (talk) 15:37, 7 March 2007 (UTC).Reply

Because the date of 43 BC is incorrect. There is no actual date for her death. --82.34.129.154 18:38, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Relationship with Plutarch

edit

Servilia‘s supposed relationship with Plutarch would have to overcome the apparent gap in living existence of the two figures. Plutarch, in his entry, is listed as being born in the mid-first century AD, while Servilia was born at the onset of the last century BC. 2600:1000:B12D:D339:A5BA:628A:418A:E27 (talk) 10:03, 26 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

I think the him in Plutarch stated that she in turn was madly in love with him refers to Caesar. Ifly6 (talk) 13:03, 26 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Birth year

edit

@Avilich and Ljredux: Re these two edits: 1, 2. I'm aware of what Flower says in OCD Online. What does Treggari say at Servilia p 41? Ifly6 (talk) 08:07, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Footnote 118 on page 41 in which Tregarri speculates over the actual year of birth (unknown to us) relates to this sentence: "The daughter, our Servilia, was clearly the elder, probably born around 100." Likewise, the opening sentence of the book says: "It may be helpful to some readers if I give a sketch of the world into which Servilia was born in about 100 BC." So I'd say c. 100 BC is correct even if we use Treggari as a source. Ljredux (talk) 14:23, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I don't have the book, so I asked. If that's what it says, that's what it says. Ifly6 (talk) 19:09, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
