Photo?

edit

Why is there no photo of him? I'm sure under fair use we could use one. Cs302b (talk) 00:28, 27 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Living person, so it would be an easy fair-use replaceable argument. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 06:57, 30 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Just google on "Islamic Rage Boy". He has a worldwide cult following. Tons of pix and comic Photoshops. Tons. LDH (talk) 07:29, 11 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
There is a photo of him which I obtained written permission from the copyright holder to put on this page, but some pedantic dick removed it.

Professional protester?

edit

This article claims that Bhat is a 'professional protester'. It's not clear what that means - does it mean he was getting paid to take part in protests? Is there any evidence for this allegation? If not, it should be removed per WP:BLP. Robofish (talk) 21:06, 18 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

It's a sloppy wording that actually turns what Bhat does upside-down. No matter what nation was being reported on, newspapers showing demonstrations that supposedly represented the "Muslim street" always managed to pick this guy. Apparently, he followed journalists around, and so matched what the biased journalists wanted to find, they also used his picture, without realizing it was the same guy, every time. 75.148.21.9 (talk) 21:32, 30 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Shakeel BhatIslamic Rage Boy –. Nobody knows the name Shakeel Bhat. "Islamic Rage Boy" is the common name. everybody searches for that. 117.204.83.105 (talk) 02:21, 8 July 2011 (UTC) Support Although I must say that the title is the least of the problems with this article. The reason he is notable is because he kept showing up in media images of supposedly random groups of protestors. He travelled from one protest to another and his striking facial features got photographed, as you can see here. Without an image, the whole thing doesn't make much sense. Confirmation

edit

Is there any independent confirmation of the claim that his sister was killed by Indian authorities? If not, an "allegedly" would add to the article's neutrality. --Kraligor (talk) 09:26, 14 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Racism?

edit

Should we mention that bloggers are being used in a racist way when they call him Islamic Rage Boy. 66.36.137.163 (talk) 16:41, 16 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

No, because it's wrong. The purpose of the bloggers' labelling of him is to point out the way that journalists worked with him to make sure they always had an exploitative photo to represent "Islamic rage." One single activist was used again and again and again to supposedly represent the entirety of the Islamic world. 67.86.165.207 (talk) 21:45, 25 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Contested claims?

edit

The claim about his sister is nowhere to be found in this archived link of the source it was cited to. In fact, no sister is mentioned anywhere on that article or any other sources cited on this page, I wonder if it is a long running hoax. In any case, since no source mentions it I am removing that claim. UnpetitproleX (talk) 07:01, 16 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Ok, found a source: the claim comes from this article on Daily Mail (Mail Online) by Patrick French. Given the policies surrounding the reliability of Daily Mail at WP:DAILYMAIL, which states "There is consensus that the Daily Mail (including its online version, MailOnline) is generally unreliable, and its use as a reference is generally prohibited. ... The Daily Mail has a "reputation for poor fact checking, sensationalism, and flat-out fabrication."[emphasis added]" that article (as well as copies of it such as this) cannot be used unless an additional reliable source is available. UnpetitproleX (talk) 07:44, 16 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
This Guardian article from 2007 is a much better source since, per WP:THEGUARDIAN, the newspaper is WP:RS. This article mentions that Shakeel has four brothers and one sister, all alive. The only member of his family who was dead was his father, which the Daily Mail claimed, a few months later, was actually alive. Thus I highly doubt the Daily Mail actually interviewed Bhat and likely fabricated much of the story. UnpetitproleX (talk) 08:01, 16 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
FPK article, another source, better than Daily Mail or its copies. UnpetitproleX (talk) 08:12, 16 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
HT article claims "heart attack", though it is apparent the family claims a history of targeting by police. UnpetitproleX (talk) 10:21, 16 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Neither FPK nor HT seem very solid RS for their claims, HT claims heart attack which is rare for a teenager, and FPK doesn't explicitly divulge their source. FPK's seems better of the two, should be good enough. UnpetitproleX (talk) 10:54, 16 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Clarification on Source Reliability

edit

I understand the concern about the reliability of the Daily Mail article. However,I would like to point out that the information in question also appears in patrick french's published Book , which is a more credible source. Books by experts are typically considered reliable references, even if the same content appears in less reputable outlets. Sahil023 (talk) 09:07, 17 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
