Link farm Dineshkannambadi 18:37, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
editPlease be adviced that wikipedia is not a link farm to keep dumping links in it. What surprises me is that Shimoga which has given so much to Karnataka/Kannada has not yet found a person who is willing to make sense of this poorly put together page. I have taken care of Hassan District, Hoysala architecture, Belur, Halebidu, Somanathapura, Ganga Dynasty and Keladi Nayaka pages. Please take interest in this and make the Shimoga page more presentable. I have excellent photos from Hoysala , Chalukya and Nayaka temples that can make the Shimoga page look good. There is no shortage of beautiful aspects of and places in this district, the very heartland of Kannada culture. Also it seems that Shimoga and Shimoga District needs to be merged.

clean up of Shimoga district page Dineshkannambadi 00:32, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
editI have cleaned up quite a bit. I am going to add some neat photos too. I forgot to log in a few times, but all recent edits were made by me. Please add any good photos you may have especially from Sharavathi WLS, Gudavi or Mandagadde BS, Agumbe, Kodachadri etc. I feel there is no need to have seperate wiki pages for Shimoga district and Shimoga town. They can be merged. I have included Shimoga town related details in the page for the district itself. Please add more details about "demographics", "Economy", "culture" if possible,. I have added very useful info to most of the Tourist places, "History" and "Places of antiquity" which I recently visited. So if it is ok with you guys, i will do a redirect from page "Shimoga" to Shimoga District. Please let me know if there is a problem with this and we can discuss.

Mr Sudarshan Bhat Trekker - Personal photo albums
editPlease dont put personal family photo albums as links right in the middle of the wiki page. Blog sites with photos must go at the bottom in the external links section. Some of these links dont even pertain to Shimoga. I have taken some trouble to do the initial clean up. Please let us not mess it up again with too many links. Wikipedia is not a personal album to put family photos in it. I appreciate the trouble you have taken to make these photos, but this is not the best place for it. Refer to other districts in (other states if needed) to see if you meet the regulations. I hope you can take this in right spirit. Also please remember to log in so we can communicate on a persoanl basis if required. I see some of the pictures you have taken are really good. If you have any photos of Virgals/Matigals/Nadu Kannada inscriptions in general (16-17th century), please create a .JPG format file, upload into wikipedia and plop it into wiki page for "Kannada" so we can show a progression of kannada script over the ages (I have already inserted Hoysala age inscriptions there). We may be even create a seperate page for Kannada inscriptions, individual sculptures over the ages (like the sculptures in the Shivappa Nayaka Palace Garden), Karnataka landscapes, Karnataka waterfalls etc.

If you did cite sources, as you must eventually anyway per the non negotiable policy of Wikipedia WP:V, it would clean up the article and make it much better -- more professional, attractive, and informational. Mattisse(talk) 13:18, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
- P.S. Why are there photos in photo gallery that do not exist? Mattisse(talk) 13:23, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
Cleanup
editI think the list of noted personalities requires serious cleanup. IMHO, it should include a handful of people from Shimoga district who have achieved fame - not just in Shimoga, but outside as well. Kuvempu, KV Subbanna, Ananthamurthy, Bangarappa, etc are fine - but the list goes on and on, and mentions people that I have neevr even heard of, after years of living in Shimoga.
I don't want to summarily shorten this list, so I am waiting for feedback and suggestions from other wikipedians.
Cleanup
editThis page requires major cleanup. I am undetaking the task. Any suggestions, improvements that people can think of can contribute directly or please let me know.

i feel until the name shivamogga is official, we ought to use the name shimoga
Cleanup
editI'm currently cleaning up the article and have completed upto cousine section. I've rewritten the section wherever necessary, added references, replaced shivamogga with shimoga. The article is crowded with biased contents and peacock terms and have replaced them with proper wordings as per Neutral point of view, also trimmed the details where they were unnecessary. ShriRamTalk tome 11:35, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
- I've removed all the biased, unsourced, personally reflected and essay like content and rewritten them. So removed maintenance tags Added as much references as I can. Updated outdated information about district like census report. I think minor clean up is still necessary. ShriRamTalk tome 17:50, 4 July 2012 (UTC)
Correction of Name
editState Government Renamed Shimoga as Shivamogga in November 1 , 2014 , but still Wiki page name not changed so please Rename it. PrajwalKumarwiki (talk) 03:49, 28 September 2019 (UTC)
- It will need consensus. You can start a page move RfC. Do not change it now as that will violate WP:COMMONNAME. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:38, 8 November 2019 (UTC)
Please change the Page Name
editIt is not Shimoga District, It is now officially renamed as Shivamogga District, so please update the same PrajwalKumarwiki (talk) 08:34, 24 May 2020 (UTC)

Shimoga district → Shivamogga District – Shimoga district is renamed as Shivamogga district on 1st November 2014 Source : https://m.timesofindia.com/city/bengaluru/Bangalore-11-other-cities-will-get-new-names/articleshow/44862699.cms PrajwalKumarwiki (talk) 12:49, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:COMMONNAME These "new" titles are not yet the common-name world-wide - although not a reliable guide, Shimoga has 9.9million G-matches, but Shivamogga only 4.36million - Arjayay (talk)
- Weak oppose on the main aspect of this, per COMMONNAME. See again after a few months if the rename is actually being picked up by the majority of current English-language news sources. However, oppose capitalization of "district", so we are WP:CONSISTENT with other articles on other divisions of places; WP does not capitalize such terms unless they are consistently capitalized the vast majority of independent, reliable, English-language sources for that particular case. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 11:24, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
- Weak oppose as per above argument.--Ab207 (talk) 19:36, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
