Racial discrimination case?

I remember hearing on the news about Shoney's getting in trouble in the Southern United States in the early 1990's for racial discrimination. Among the things I remember from the report were applicants for employment had their job applications flagged if they were black by placing a small dot inside the "o" of the Shoney's logo, and a case where a manager hired black employees and then hid them in a closet when the district manager made a surprise visit to his restaurant.

There seems to be mention about it on the net. The case was filed in 1989 in Florida:

In fact, the category of racial discrimination lawsuit is a section mentioned under the Denny's wiki entry. Shoney's Inn

There is no mention of the Shoney's Inn concept which seems to have come and gone - just wondering if that would be article worthy (if anyone knows more about it...this is pretty much my depth of knowledge on the topic :)

And not just that - the template at the bottom of the article is for hotels, rather than restaurants. This needs to be corrected. Just Below 39 (talk) 16:12, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

Major rewrite

As noted on the article's page, this article has multiple issues. Some of these ar mentioned in eralier notes here on the talk page. I think some of the problems arise from the fact that a lot of the current article is really stale. I would like to elaborate, as well as add some more.

Besides lacking any inline or even general references, the biggest single flaw I see is that the current Shoney's brandname and restaurants are under a relatively new ownership group. That fact is very poorly presented, and in someways, is misrepresented. Almost everything else, both written and missing, is historical in nature, and pertains to the companies and their leaders that previously operated under the Shoney's banner. Both Alex Shoenbaum and Raymond L. Danner Sr. are now dead, and ahve not been involved for years. Danner bears major responsibility for the past history of racial discrimination of employees. It is wrong that we not include that subject, but it is also important that we make it very clear that a different company and management was involved than the current company operating what the public knows as Shoney's.

Wrong Years for Big Boy Franchise & Name Change; Not Employee Contest

1. The Parkette became a Big Boy franchisee in February 1952 (not 1951).

2. The contest and name change from Parkette to Shoney's occurred in 1954 (not 1953).

3. The contest excluded employees. The car was won by Paul Edens, a life insurance agent.

I think the year issue has to do with the franchise becoming effective February of 1952 which likely means it was signed in 1951. So I suppose Shoney's can technically say the franchise was acquired in 1951, but it is misleading as people think that's when Parkette/Shoney's became a francisee. The contest and name change occurred two years later hence the year error occurred again.

I have no idea where the mistaken claim of the employee contest comes from though I've seen it repeated many times including an interview with Schoenbaum's widow available online. The article All American Tradition http://www.wvliving.com/Spring-2012/All-American-Tradition/ nonetheless might be added as a good outside reference.

So was the bread. The soups were not labeled and had no idea what the one soup was. The deserts were in 2 entirely different places. This is no way to run a buffet. How Much Criticism Is Too Much?

"I did a rewrite on Shoney's and someone has added a bunch of information back to the article about a lawsuit. I am wondering how much criticism such as lawsuits is acceptable for company articles? The text is many paragraphs long about a single lawsuit. Maybe it is too much and maybe it is too little.
