long list

I went to Oxford in 1965 and left in 1973 (with BA and DPhil). I have spent most of my life, one way or another, in the academic world. I have never heard the phrase 'long list' and was not aware that it was even a concept, except of course by implication. In fact, I first heard the phrase in German, a language in which as one has sadly become accustomed to hear so many bizarre attempts at using English, the most spectacularly inept of which was the very short-lived 'body bag' to describe a fashion item used mostly by women (Pamour (talk) 15:44, 20 September 2016 (UTC)).Reply

That is where the simple definition of the word "shortlist" belongs.

And that's all there is to see here. --Loginnigol 20:16, 21 December 2018 (UTC)

It's terrible. 1 source, deep into an over-weight digression about politics. A coat rack to hang any possible usage of the word short list. A questionable dictionary definition strung out. I am certain some clever journalist or professor has written an essay about shortlists, but where. -- GreenC 04:14, 25 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
