Notability and other issues

edit

There are multiple issues with this page as it is now. First, notability needs to be established. Being the son of a media-savvy business tycoon is not enough to make this person notable. Plus, the content is heavily based on Mallya's own website and is poorly structured. Needs heavy copyediting even if this article is retained. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aurorion (talkcontribs) 11:57, 14 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Siddharth MallyaSid Mallya – His official name is 'Sid Mallya' in media. His name is mistaken in most of the articles. --Relisted. Armbrust The Homunculus 11:30, 18 July 2014 (UTC) Relisted Calidum Talk To Me 03:20, 10 July 2014 (UTC) Richa101091 (talk) 09:38, 3 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • Move to Sidhartha Mallya: Actually, his official name (e.g., the one on his birth certificate, driving license, and passport), seems to be Sidhartha. Both "SiddarthSiddharth" and "Sid" seem to be simple shortened nicknames. It seems rather common for an encyclopedia to refer to someone in a more formal way than their nicknames, and his use of the shorter nickname seems relatively recent and not so dominant. Not long ago, most reliable sources referred to him as "SiddarthSiddharth" or "Sidhartha". Really, we don't have a lot of reliable sources to consult about him. To me he doesn't seem so well known that we can really establish a clear idea of his common name. I was thinking that "SiddarthaSidhartha" would be the best current choice. The nominator's acknowledgement that "His name is [not Sid] in most of the articles" that are referenced seems to indicate that is name should not be "Sid" on Wikipedia either (in the absence of a predominance of reliable sources indicating otherwise). By the way, does anyone happen to know what sort of talent he is planning to demonstrate on the ABC Talent Showcase described in the article? —BarrelProof (talk) 23:13, 14 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
Apparently that talent showcase is some sort of acting training program or career development program for aspiring actors that promotes diversity in acting, rather than being some sort of show. I found a source of more information about it and put it into the article (and removed mention of it from the lead, where it does not seem to really belong). The source reports that he has registered with SAG as "Sid Mallya" to try to avoid being typecast in acting roles. However, although he is clearly pursuing a career in acting and using that stage name for that pursuit, it is not clear whether he will really be doing that in the long term. For example, he doesn't seem to have actually acted in any notable performances. He has dabbled in several possible career paths, and the nickname he recently chose for his public persona as an aspiring actor may not last. Ultimately, he could end up back in the drinks business or in sports management, or who knows what – he's still a young guy with most of his career still ahead of him. I'll stick with my prior suggestion of "Sidhartha". Only very recently has he been promoting the use of the name "Sid". Most sources seem to identify him as "Sidhartha" or "SiddarthSiddharth" (just scanning the titles of the cited references and external links should suffice to make that obvious, and none of them that are more than a year old seem to use "Sid"). —BarrelProof (talk) 13:07, 18 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Postscript: It looks like some of my spellings above were a little mixed up. Sorry about that – I just took the liberty of correcting some of that with strikethroughs – but I think I got the basic point across anyway. —BarrelProof (talk) 10:32, 30 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Siddharth MallyaSid Mallya"Sid Mallya" is the name registered at the Los Angeles Screen Actors Guild, and renders 1,95,000 G-hits while "Siddharth Mallya" renders 1,08,000 hits. In fact, Siddharth is neither his legal nor professional name; it is a shortening of Sidhartha.
