Chanderi or Raisen?

All of the cited sources appear to describe a siege at Raisen in 1543, not Chanderi. ImperialAficionado, what's your reasoning for identifying the location as Chanderi? _signed, Rosguill ^talk 20:22, 25 January 2024 (UTC)

The fort is located at Raisen. But that was the part of Chanderi, the capital of Puran Mal. I used WP:COMMONNAME here. And if it is wrong, we can move this. Note that the context is the same, I used Chanderi instead of Raisen as it it more recognised one. Imperial^[AFCND] 03:15, 26 January 2024 (UTC)

I thought Chanderi would be better as, the fort at Raisen was a part of Chanderi, where Puran Mal was the ruler. And Chanderi is popular for witnessing other historic events too. So I thought it would fit WP:COMMONNAME. If that was a mistake, we could move this. Imperial^[AFCND] 13:37, 26 January 2024 (UTC)

Ultimately we need to follow what sources say, that is how we identify the WP:COMMONNAME. Additionally typically "Siege of X" refers to situations where the entire location X is encircled; the fort may have been defending the broader region of Chanderi, but that doesn't mean that Chanderi as a whole was under siege; the impact of the siege on the rest of Chanderi should be addressed in the article body, but it's misleading to call it a siege of Chanderi as the title (based on the assembled sources). The identification of the fort attacked by Sher Shah Suri with Chanderi fort further appears to have been an error--none of the cited sources assert that the fort was in the town of Chanderi, which is the location of that fort, and I don't see any separate sources asserting that that fort was under siege in 1543 (our article currently asserts without a clear source that Sher Shah Suri took that fort in 1540; separately, most sources online identify Chanderi fort as primarily a Mughal fort, although prior iterations of the fort were built as early as the 11th century, raising questions about whether the fort was operational in 1543). _signed, Rosguill ^talk 13:47, 26 January 2024 (UTC)

Got it. And I created this article few months back, while I wasn't aware of the regulations of Wikipedia. I think this articles fails WP:GNG. And none of the sources call it "Siege of Chanderi" or "Siege of Raisen" (I couldn't). So, it is like inventing a new name. What are your thoughts on this? Wouldn't it be better if we create a bigger articles, where all of the Suri-Rajput conflicts are addressed? Imperial^[AFCND] 15:05, 26 January 2024 (UTC)

I think we're ok GNG-wise because several different sources do address the battle directly, even if they don't have a canonical name for it. That having been said, it may be more informative to readers to merge this information into either an article about the war, about the location, or to the biographies of involved military leaders. _signed, Rosguill ^talk 16:37, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
