Silver Spoon and Poison?

I've read in some articles (Spoons and Chopsticks \Sulfur on Silver) that the reason why the rich and the wealthy use silver spoons is not merely as an ornament or a show for status but is used to determine if the food is contaminated with sulfur, a commonly used element for poison. Rich babies were perceived to be healthier than their working-class counterparts because of the alleged bacteriostatic properties of silver.
