Saint Kitts and Nevis

edit

Sombrero IS part of St.Kitts and Nevis. When Anguilla seceded, it was the island of Anguilla only. Not Anguilla and Sombrero. Anguilla MAINTAINS the lighthouse on Sombrero and the fishermen continue to use its waters for their livelihood. But nevertheless, Sombrero still belongs to St.Kitts and Nevis. And always will be.

How come on some maps this island is part of Saint Kitts and Nevis?--87.64.100.40 17:58, 20 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Definitely not part of St Kitts & Nevis. I have a recollection that it used to belong to the British Virgin Islands (it is located midway between Anguilla and BVI), but was ceded to Anguilla by Order-in-council, but I can't find a reliable source to cite. --Legis (talk - contribs) 17:11, 30 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sombrero is British (and always will be)!

edit

Odd sentence under Juristiction "Whether the Sailors intended a territorial claim, or believed the Island to still be UK territory, is unclear." How did it NOT become British territory? It is part of Anguilla which is British territory! The "locals" were seriously wrong to remove the flag of the country that owns the island and of which the island forms part. I find their actions to be despicable and a new British flag should be reinstated immediately to right this appaling wrong! —Comment added by YourPTR! (talk) 19:27, 6 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Something much more suitable now replaces the offensive wording under Juristiction in the artlce. —Comment added by YourPTR! (talk) 19:39, 6 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Claimed by America?

edit

[1] this source claims the United States didn't claim Sombrero Island. Not sure what the original source for the US Claim is but this one includes lots more information to add about the sovereignty dispute which could be added.--Pithon314 (talk) 05:37, 4 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
