Plot Description

Do we really need a scene by scene description of the plot? Can we not just have a general summary, with perhaps key points mentioned? I'd say that the plot description isn't overly long. I wouldn't object to some clipping but overall it's fine. The content is relevant and appropriate, why leave it out? 131.96.47.13 (talk) 18:25, 9 October 2009 (UTC)

Quote/Trivia - no valid source

In the Casting Notes section this line: Streep filmed the "choice" scene in one take. Being a mother herself, she found shooting the scene extremely painful and emotionally draining and refused to do it again. Gives this link http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,924815-8,00.html as the source. I have just read through that entire article, paying particular attention to the specific page that's apparently being referenced, and nothing of this (Streep being unable to film that scene more than once) is mentioned anywhere. In fact, the article gives the impression that filming for Sophie's Choice had not even begun at the time.

However, I have seen this little bit of trivia repeated everywhere, which does not mean it's true, but it may be and thus there should be a valid source available if it is. I'll move the "1" up as that part of the paragraph IS backed up by the source and leave things alone for now - I am still rather confused about the correct process of indicating "within" an article that a line or paragraph needs a reference. So I'll give someone more invested the time to find a valid source for that line. If no one does so in the near future, I'll just remove the line. Paranoid Android 2600! Name of the moral dilemma

I was wondering whether there was an actual name for the moral dilemma the woman here described being faced with immediately after entering the camps. I've seen a number of places where the question is posed of what a person should/would do if two or more loved ones were in peril and they could only save one, and would have to deliberately doom the other(s) to death. One of the most common ways I've seen this presented has a person's mother and fiance/spouse both drowning in a river, so that the person would have to abandon one to save the other. This isn't a moral question with a real answer, but it is presented at times as cause for thought. Reception sources invalid for time of film.

This article is supposed to be written from a historical angle. The "Reception" category says that the film got good reviews in 1982, then goes on to cite web sites. There was no web in 1992. Maybe someone has fixed it since you made your comment, but at this time there is only one reference to a website. That is where it says, "On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, it currently holds..." (Emphasis added.) All the other quotes are from 1982 editins of newspapers and magazines.
