Fair use rationale for Image:Sophie's Choice1.jpg

edit

Image:Sophie's Choice1.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:48, 6 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

== Interdependence == For the first time a red a page which tells the story, I saw, no halluzinogen writer, who acts on his fancies in. It depends on the point of view and this version is near the perspective of sophie herself, somehow her perspective. For ourdays the frames of the film are sometimes to close,I Think, she narrating and in an angle like an angel.... So the 80th worked and they know there stil well!--Danaide (talk) 17:08, 24 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Plot Description

edit

Do we really need a scene by scene description of the plot? Can we not just have a general summary, with perhaps key points mentioned? At this point, the bulk of the article is basically a rundown of the film itself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zelmia (talkcontribs) 06:57, 7 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

I agree with the above comment. If there is no objection within the next week I shall condense the plot summary to something more appropriate. Durwoodie (talk) 08:13, 5 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'd say that the plot description isn't overly long. I wouldn't object to some clipping but overall it's fine. The content is relevant and appropriate, why leave it out? 131.96.47.13 (talk) 18:25, 9 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
For such a short article it's far too detailed, IMO. But unless someone else pipes up by midday Monday I'll just do some trimming. Durwoodie (talk) 18:41, 9 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
Condensed the plot description this morning. Durwoodie (talk) 11:40, 12 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Quote/Trivia - no valid source

edit

In the Casting Notes section this line: Streep filmed the "choice" scene in one take. Being a mother herself, she found shooting the scene extremely painful and emotionally draining and refused to do it again. Gives this link http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,924815-8,00.html as the source. I have just read through that entire article, paying particular attention to the specific page that's apparently being referenced, and nothing of this (Streep being unable to film that scene more than once) is mentioned anywhere. In fact, the article gives the impression that filming for Sophie's Choice had not even begun at the time.

However, I have seen this little bit of trivia repeated everywhere, which does not mean it's true, but it may be and thus there should be a valid source available if it is. I'll move the "1" up as that part of the paragraph IS backed up by the source and leave things alone for now - I am still rather confused about the correct process of indicating "within" an article that a line or paragraph needs a reference. So I'll give someone more invested the time to find a valid source for that line. If no one does so in the near future, I'll just remove the line. Paranoid Android 2600! You can use the {{cn}} tag; just add {{cn}} to the end of an uncited sentence. I've done so here. Thanks for pointing it out! Erik (talk | contribs) 17:20, 6 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Name of the moral dilemma

edit

I was wondering whether there was an actual name for the moral dilemma the woman here described being faced with immediately after entering the camps. I've seen a number of places where the question is posed of what a person should/would do if two or more loved ones were in peril and they could only save one, and would have to deliberately doom the other(s) to death. One of the most common ways I've seen this presented has a person's mother and fiance/spouse both drowning in a river, so that the person would have to abandon one to save the other. This isn't a moral question with a real answer, but it is presented at times as cause for thought. Does the question have any real name? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.45.169.2 (talk) 13:23, 1 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Reception sources invalid for time of film.

edit

This article is supposed to be written from a historical angle. The "Reception" category says that the film got good reviews in 1982, then goes on to cite web sites. There was no web in 1992. (There was an Internet, but it was academic/military only.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.96.22.163 (talk) 21:44, 23 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Maybe someone has fixed it since you made your comment, but at this time there is only one reference to a website. That is where it says, "On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, it currently holds..." (Emphasis added.) All the other quotes are from 1982 editins of newspapers and magazines.
