Why the picture is in Mallorca

edit

I was just about to write a question asking whether they did charter flights as the photo of the aircraft in spiceJet colours is taken in Mallorca. However, as you'll notice, there's no titles on the plane in the picture and, having found the original on airliners.net, it says the following: "Getting ready for delivery to new Indian startup SpiceJet from Futura!" [1] Also note that the plane holds an Irish registration as Futura Airlines has Dublin as a base. Hopefully that might save someone else a few minutes trying to uncover the reason for these anomalies! Iancaddy 00:12, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Possible Future Deliveries Correction

edit

I noticed that someone listed that SpiceJet has 14 737-800 and 10 737-900ER on order claiming that the February 2006 order was firm as well as the August order. I believe based on Boeing's press releases and orders/deliveries page that the February order was simply an MOU and that the August 2006 order was a firming of those first 10 options. Therefore, I beleive that the airline currently has only 9 737-800 and 5 737-900ER on firm order with the aformentioned further 10 options. I didn't change those numbers because I cannot yet confirm this until Boeing updates it's August User Defined Reports page next month.

SG or 0S ?

edit

I was looking at flights between Kolkata and Chennai last summer and I saw one labelled 0S521. However, 0S is not labelled in the IATA airline designator. However, when you search 0S it leads you to the SpiceJet page, where the IATA code is SG which is on the IATA listing (along with Canada's defunct JetsGo). So I'm curious, was SpiceJet formerly 0S and is now SG, or vice-versa, or what?

Aircraft names

edit

Does it make sense to list aircraft names? Where is the encyclopedic value? Names are just stickers applied to the aircraft fuselage, so I cannot see why they should be of any interest. Remeber that Wikipedia is not a database for enthusiasts, but rather an encyclopedia for the general interested ones. Many airlines have given names to their aircraft, but a listing like in this article is quite rare. Per aspera ad Astra (talk) 17:33, 7 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Delays

edit

The timely performance of an airline is a performance criteria, and if Spicejet has been reported as the worst hit in terms of delays in reliable media/ news articles - then that fact needs to stay.Sunyrai (talk) 16:16, 3 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Statements like "Each of SpiceJet's employee is trained to behave in a smart, friendly and efficient manner so that they ensure every passenger feels welcome and looked after. The pilots and flight attendants are all well experienced. SpiceJet also heavily invests in safety of the passengers and maintenance of the aircraft" have been copied and pasted from the Spicejet Website's Corporate overview section. This is mere advertisement and copying material from other websites word-for-word is against Wiki policy WP:COPY Sunyrai (talk) 16:04, 21 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Someone simply shifted the "Each of SpiceJet's employee is trained to behave in a smart, friendly and efficient manner ..." statement from a lower section to the header section. That does not solve the problem. It is still a copy and an an advertisement and not in line with wiki policy WP:POVSunyrai (talk) 06:39, 9 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Ongoing issue

edit

You had reverted the Jeeja Ghosh story when it was placed here first. Now again you are doing an edit war. You may refer my talk page for answer to why this story needs to stay. It is an issue of national importance and if not in the title, but the update should be present of the airlines attitude where the issue was mentioned.Sunyrai (talk) 12:27, 27 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Abhishek, you removed the delay issue multiple times. It remains in the article. I have answered your BRD citation in my talk page. Someone removed Jeeja Ghosh issue when it was put here for the first time as undue. It remains. Therefore latest development on this issue also has to remain. Do not engage in edit war. SG913 Picture

edit

In the Accidents and incidents section of this page, there is a photo labeled 'A SpiceJet Q400. The kind of aircraft used in flight SG 913', but there is no mention of this in the text, only of SG219. Could someone either remove the photo or add info about SG913?Airlinesguy (talk) 12:01, 3 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Are you trying to contact SpiceJet? If so this is the wrong place to do so, because this Wikipedia article has absolutely no affiliation or connection with SpiceJet itself. You won't get a response from the airline here. —Compdude123 01:21, 15 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

@Magentic Manifestations: How exactly do you respond to this? Who seems to have copied whom? Sainsf <^>Feel at home

Sainsf, about three paras are showing as common between the link and the page. Firstly, the first two paras which are the lead para and services were added by myself in its current state when I started editing the article towards GA. Secondly, the link is dated 5 April 2016 while the content existed since March 2016 in the article.Magentic Manifestations (talk) 19:38, 12 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Crashes and incidents

edit

A Google image search for Spicejet + Crash reveals several crashes, where is the section here? Torbenlicht2015 (talk) 07:41, 16 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

edit

First paragraph describes SpiceJet as India's third largest airline in terms of market-share, ahead of Air India. The source cited for this claim is dubious, because it only mentions the market-share of airlines on domestic routes. Air India is a largely international airline, with over 40 widebody aircraft. There's no way that SpiceJet has an overall higher market share than Air India. Correct this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Btarunr (talkcontribs) 12:35, 29 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Merger of destinations article into SpiceJet

edit

I don't know why the user that started the proposal did not provide their rationale. I say no to the merger as the destinations table is long enough to warrant a stand-alone article.--Jetstreamer Talk 13:14, 27 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

SpiceJet’s article has been showing 17 737-700BDSF on order for a long time but without any cited sources. Shouldn’t it be removed? The other citations for the table don’t support it either. AlphaBravo178 (talk) 19:40, 9 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Source for fleet

edit

I do not think that the source for fleet, i.e. airfleets.net, is very good. There are a few inconsistencies. As an example, here and here. The first one says SpiceJet has 25 737s and 10 Dash 8s while the second one says that it has 26 737s and 9 Dash 8s. I think planespotters.net is a better source. Arnav Bhate (talk) 17:50, 19 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

WP:PLANESPOTTERS is not reliable.--Jetstreamer Talk 21:15, 19 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hey @Arnav Bhate,
one inconsistency doesn't make a whole website unreliable already.
You can contact the customer service of airfleets to solve the inconsistency: https://www.airfleets.net/contact/contact.htm
Do you have a better reference than airfleets? Then simply plunge forward and state it. I by myself have no problem with planespotters, but another user here has, so the compromise has been airfleets.net. WikiPate (talk) 00:53, 20 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Jetstreamer, the same notice board has also deemed airfleets unreliable. As for a better reliable source @WikiPate, how about this one from dgca? Arnav Bhate (talk) 10:40, 20 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
A discussion doesn't necessarily lead to a general consensus like in that linked discussion. In that one I go rather with the opinion of Squidfryerchef. Sufficiently reliable references are needed for figures and contestable statements. What is written on WP must not differ from the stated reference. But imo it should not be overdone with academic standards in less world changing topics and where figures change regularly anyway.
DGCA looks good to me. It's as of June 2023. WikiPate (talk) 11:40, 20 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
If it depended on me I would also wipe out the airfleets reference.--Jetstreamer Talk 19:44, 20 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Arnav Bhate I wrote the customer service of airfleets.net and got this answer: "It is because the fleet age section is updated one time every two months" WikiPate (talk) 14:18, 22 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

90 seat Q400s

edit

What ever happened to the 90 seat Dash 8 Q400s? According to Planespotters.net, the airline still has 5 of them. Why does the fleet section only list 78 seats? Mirza Ahmed (talk) 06:51, 26 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Planespotters is not reliable per WP:PLANESPOTTERS.--Jetstreamer Talk 11:59, 26 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
