Requested move 11 October 2015

The result of the move request was: Moved. While there has been little involvement in this request, there has been no objections to the move, which - provided the move meets with guidelines - means the moves can take place. We do allow capitals when they are acronyms, as with STAR TV, as pointed out - so that will remain unmoved; however, it has been argued that the other examples of STAR are using the word not as an acronym, but as a name to identify with the parent, and that usage across sources is inconsistent. Our house style is not to use capitals unless they are clearly acronyms, and that is not the case here, so the moves will take place. SilkTork ✔Tea time 19:21, 1 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

– per MOS:TM / WP:ALLCAPS. The all-caps is primarily decorative, and is not evident in the logos shown in the infoboxes or in the body of the articles themselves (at least in most cases). There are various other "STAR/Star" articles for affiliated topics that use the normal English ("Star") form, and although there may be an acronym that fits these letters, it is surely not pronounced by spelling out the letters in normal usage. The target names already redirect to the same articles (in the non-redlink cases). In several cases, these are reverts of old undiscussed moves. There was an RM discussion that moved StarWorld to STAR World in July 2014 (with little participation). —BarrelProof (talk) 21:53, 11 October 2015 (UTC) --Relisted. Let's fix the others too. A lot of the affiliated topic names already redirect to mixed case titles (e.g., Star India). I just picked the most obvious ones I could quickly find as "low-hanging fruit" —BarrelProof (talk) 02:22, 12 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
Also STAR Movies Select HD, STAR One, STAR CJ Alive, STAR Parivaar Awards, STAR (Greater China), STAR Sports (China), STAR Voice of India 2, and possibly STAR TIMES International. (I don't know whether the last one is affiliated with the others or not – that article is completely unsourced and poor quality – so I just WP:PRODded it.) —BarrelProof (talk) 02:39, 12 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
STAR 1 has many different topics by that name. The one at Star One is probably not the primary topic either [2] -- 70.51.44.60 (talk) 08:02, 12 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
Let's move Star One to Star One (band). —BarrelProof (talk) 09:16, 12 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
I have put a move discussion notice on the Talk pages of all of the additional articles that have been identified in this conversation so far. —BarrelProof (talk) 09:31, 12 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
Update: The above-described WP:PROD expired without objection, so STAR TIMES International was deleted. —BarrelProof (talk) 00:42, 22 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
Yes, but I'll bet that it's not commonly spelled out as an acronym when pronounced. It was chosen to be pronounced as a word, and is not consistently in all-uppercase even in self-published sources such as logos. Here the all-caps is clearly just for branding/logo styling to try to create a distinctive appearance. —BarrelProof (talk) 02:22, 12 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
No strong objection here, but that was what the article had before the RM of a year ago, and including the space would be more consistent with the others. There seems to be a substantial number of similarly-named affiliated topics, and consistency seems desirable. —BarrelProof (talk) 02:22, 12 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Moves

edit

I've done the moves requested and suggested. Worth looking over them for omissions and errors. I've updated as I've gone along, but there are sure to be templates, navboxes and articles where there are still STARs when there should be Stars. I've not moved STAR One as unsure what to move it to. I think STAR One is a more WP:Natural search for users than STAR One (TV), so it may be best to leave it. STAR (Greater China) and STAR TV are acronyms so I've left them - and they may be on the same subject anyway, so might need merging - I haven't looked closely. Any issues arising please contact me on my talkpage - I don't have ping activated. SilkTork ✔Tea time 20:27, 1 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Merger proposal

edit

I propose to merge List of programs broadcast by Star Jalsha into Star Jalsha. The main article (Star Jalsha) isn't big enough & there is no reason for a separate page. Merging of "List of programs broadcast by Star Jalsha" will not cause any problems as far as article size is concerned. আফতাবুজ্জামান (talk) 21:33, 22 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

If it might violate WP:NOTDIR, then this list articles should be deleted. Wikipedia is not a directory. আফতাবুজ্জামান (talk) 16:45, 20 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
