Country Of Origin
editThe article seems to be sending mixed messages as to the founding locale of Lions Gate, in the article it says it was founded in Los Angeles, but in the sidebar it states that it was founded in Vancouver. From what I remember, it was ORIGINALLY founded in Canada, in Vancouver (hence the name, named after the bridge in the same city), and the article should be changed to reflect this...
"Lions Gate is based in Vancouver, but does most of its business in Santa Monica, Calif. In his documents, Mr. Icahn says the company is trying to fend him off with plans to move out of Canada to the United States, where takeover rules are different. The company, he says, asked the B.C. Securities Commission to end its status as a “reporting issuer” in Canada."

Hasnt Lions Gate just taken over a UK operation? if so which company?DJ HEAVEN 14:31, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
I don't think that the Tyler Perry block at the bottom of the page is necessary. I understand Perrys association with Lionsgate, but why not then include Michael Moore, Nicholas Cage, etc. I won't remove it but maybe it can be discussed here.
From Talk:Lions Gate Films
editMerge them.
Totally do it, makes sense since LG Entertainment is both a distribution and production company Cornell Rockey 02:25, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
Origin of Name
edit"...although both names refer to the same Vancouver landmark, the Lions Gate bridge."
The names may be taken from the bridge, but the bridge itself is named after the narrows (officially named "First Narrows) it passes over. The 'Lions', in turn, are two mountain peaks some 30 miles to the northwest, and were named after a fancied resemblance to the lion statuary in Trafalgar Square, England. Just to be absurdly complete, the original name of the 'Lions' mountain peaks was "The Two Sisters" as they were called by the native inhabitants long before. Merger with LGE
editObject. The two articles should not be merged. Lions Gate Entertaiment is a parent company, Lions Gate films is a subsidiary. We don't merge NBC or Universal Pictures into NBC Universal; we do not merge Paramount Pictures into Viacom; we do not merge MGM, Columbia Pictures or United Artists into Sony Pictures Entertainment; therefore we should not merge Lions Gate Films into Lions Gate Entertainment. - Davodd 22:22, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
- I agree – (empoor) 13:05, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
- Seconded. It'll be too confusing to put them in the same box. Crosslink, of course, but not merge. ErisRaven 06:08, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
Lions Gate is now Lionsgate
editThe company has officially changed the name of all its divisions to Lionsgate, hence no more "Lions Gate Films," "Lions Gate Music," etc. All relevant articles should be updated to reflect the new name.
- The official company name still stays the same (Lions Gate Entertainment Corporation), so only the brand name has been changed to Lionsgate [1] – (empoor) 00:52, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
- Please correct this. They really operate under Lionsgate now – (empoor) 11:21, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
- All of that is true, but according to the copyright to LGF's site and the New York Stock Exchange, it's still respectively known and spelled as "Lions Gate Entertainment Corporation". Only the film, television, home entertainment, and music divisions are spelled as "Lionsgate". King Shadeed 0:22, April 22, 2011 (UTC)
Mentioning on Ultimate Avengers
editBoth These direct to DVD Animated Features were produced by lionsgate home entertainment. This could be mentioned in the section for Home Video. Would it ok for it to be mentioned in the article? Or better yet, in the Home Entertainment link articleNathen
Link Category: Lions Gate films & Delete Films section?
editShould Transporter 3 be mentioned in the article? Saw their logo at the beginning of the film the other day. Actually, after looking into it, should we just include a link to Category:Lions Gate Entertainment films Category:Lions_Gate_films or try to keep them /both/ up to date? Based in what?
editI'm confused—is Lionsgate Canadian or American? --(trogga) 22:29, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
- That's what I am also confused about. This article seems to contradict itself in regards to the nationality of the company. NorthernThunder 04:27, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- As an employee of Lionsgate I can tell you that the company is and was originally a Canadian company and still has offices in Canada. However, the current company headquarters and main office is located in Santa Monica, CA.
- Just because it's head offices are in California does not mean it's an American company. Lionsgate is still a Canadian company until they state otherwise. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jmacgrath (talk • contribs) 03:35, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
I bought 3:10 to YUMA from Best BUY. Three weeks after I bought it, I decided to watch it. The DVD would not load on my Blu-Ray player. Since we could not find the sales slip. I bought a copy from Amazon.Com. I tried to play the DVD as soon as i received it. It would not load. I sent the DVD back to them and they sent me a replacement. This one would not work either. Today I visited Best Buy. They tried to load it on their player and it would not work. What is the problem. Have you had other problems with coding these DVD's? Please respond and advise. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.60.33.75 (talk) 11:24, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Facebook and Twitter
editLionsgate has an official Facebook and Twitter. They are not spam. The links are as follows: http://www.facebook.com/lionsgate, http://twitter.com/#!/lionsgatemovies Since the company is a movie studio, they have some advertorial content on these sites. That doesn't make it spam, it's still a resource. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LadyUranus (talk • contribs) 16:09, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

North America
editsince the company has its main operations i.e. HQs in california and was founded in b.columbia thus the introduction most correctly reads " North American " canada is perfectly summed up in it as the company isn't exactly strictly "canadian only" anymore to have it called canadian for what it`s worth. canada should be merged with the U.S. likewise :D www.annexation.ca

- Mexico is also part of North America. —Mike Allen 10:01, 24 December 2011 (UTC)
that is certainly true mike, however mexico has half of its territory on what is geographically speaking central america. plus we all know that there are huge differences culturally between mexico (the part of it that actually rests on the north american plate) and the upper part of NA`s landmass and its inhabitants. (albeit relatively fading in recent times but still) canada and the u.s, are on the other hand as close to being identical as can be (except for artificially created political circumstances) anyways, to not get carried too much away and stay on topic, "North American" is the most correct for a basic description of the company and its origin with regards to where it was founded and where it has its HQs and operations and is registered.
if you are north american and interested in the future of your country please go and see www.annexation.ca

Lions Gate's historical foundation dates
editSince I've seen a little speculation, I've found LGF's foundation dates:
http://investors.lionsgate.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=62796&p=irol-faq
To clear things up, according to Lions Gate, it was originally founded on May 26, 1986 as Beringer Gold Corp. and was renamed to Lions Gate Entertainment Corporation on July 3, 1997.

Mass removal of sourced information
editPlease stop mass removal of sourced information, King Shadeed. Also, infoboxes are not for detail information about units. There are such things as other articles that the reader can click through to find out or read the history text. Actually read the articles' sources regarding Lionsgate Films as a subsidiary corporation (Inc.): "Principal Subsidiaries:...Lions Gate Films Corp.; Lions Gate Films Inc.; Cinepix Film Properties (CFP) announced a name change yesterday, to Lions Gate Films Inc. Spshu (talk) 20:28, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
Rename the article to Lions Gate Entertainment, Inc.
editShouldn't the page actually be for Lions Gate Entertainment, Inc., seeing as how THAT is the American company? From looking @ Lions Gate Entertainment, Inc.: Private Company Information - Businessweek, it would seem that Lions Gate Entertainment, Inc. is the U.S. entertainment company & Lions Gate Entertainment Corporation is simply a holding company. I mean, the page itself even describes Lions Gate Entertainment, Inc. as the U.S. holding company. The non-U.S. assets were probably owned by Lions Gate Entertainment Corporation. 76.235.248.47 (talk) 04:18, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

Lions Gate Entertainment → Lionsgate – Currently, the official name is the article's title, but the common name is Lionsgate. The article itself transitions into using Lionsgate as the most common reference to the topic. Search hits on google appear to favor the short form as well. GoneIn60 (talk) 16:34, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

Lionsgate-Starz wiki page post-merger.
editDear fellow wikipedians, I think after the merger completes there should be a wiki page for the combined entity similar to Activision-Blizzard and KraftHeinz.

Official name
editThe name of the company is Lions Gate Entertainment Corp, which is the exact name registered on its charter. [6] The United States Securities and Exchange Commission is legally responsible for the overseeing of publicly traded companies who have to provide it with up to date information [7] Lions Gate Entertainment, Inc. is a subsidiary of Lions Gate Entertainment Corp, see page 80 of their annual report [8] as well as a listing of subsidiaries by the SEC [9] --Tærkast (Discuss) 16:51, 20 November 2016 (UTC)
- I checked out California's company filing database located at [10], and as expected only found Lions Gate Entertainment Inc. (without comma, though). The SEC filing linked by yourself shows that "Lions Gate Entertainment Corp." has only moved legally, but not actually, to Santa Monica, hence the mailing address is still in Vancouver whereas the registered office (which may be decided on by the issuer) is located in SM. A quick search in the SEC database does reveal an Inc.-named company, though filings refer to it as "U.S. Lions Gate"; would that mean that it is the U.S. branch of the company, while the company itself is also located in the U.S.? That does not make sense to me. It also states at the website's footer that the website is of Inc. From what I can see, I guess that Corp. is a Canadian company for whatever reason re-registered to somehow be the U.S., even if it is not; and Inc. the American counterpart. So should we decide to either change the name to Inc., or change the location back to Canada and leave Corp.?
- Well, it seems to me Lionsgate itself is being all confusing about the name, since both "Corp." and "Inc." appear on the official sites and stuff. The SEC filing Form 10Q gives both Canada and the US as primary executive addresses. It's quite a mix-up really.--Tærkast (Discuss) 17:53, 20 November 2016 (UTC)

Ownership
editRecently noticed that the ownership parameter from the ibx was removed a while back at least two times now (the first one was reverted without a clear reason too). one of the reasons was the fact that Lionsgate is publicly traded, although other public traded companies such as Berkshire Hathaway and Paramount Global have their respective ownerships as Warren Buffet and National Amusements. another reason was that CNN lists a majority of shareholders via investment firms and not by the board chair, however, one thing I would like to note is MHR Fund Management, which was founded by Lionsgate board chair member Mark Rachesky, so technically he owns Lionsgate through this fund management firm, and this claim is fueled even more through Lionsgate's more recent proxy statement where it says that Mark owns at least 10% of the company which can be found at page 93 of the pdf. and another thing was the fact that last year, the parameter was listed as Mark Rachesky (controlling stake) Discovery, Inc. (3%) Liberty Global (3.5%), which was removed to just include Mark before it was removed altogether this year. if there is any other reason for the ownership to not be in the ibx please let me know. thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chrome Boy (talk • contribs) 12:55, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
Parent vs Owner
edittechnically, a "parent" company owns 51% or more voting/common stock of a company. AT&T only owns 2% of this company. Maybe we should move AT&T to owner? WiinterU (talk) 23:49, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
