Is it a good idea to have all those the "Vidhan Sabha constituency" articles?
editIt seems that someone addded hundreds if not thousands of articles titled "So and So (Vidhan Sabha constituency". The articles appear to be mechanically generated from some official report. Is this a good idea?
Wikipedia is not a database nor a directory: it is not, and should not be, the place where one looks up official information such as who are the current assemblymen or the results of the last elections. Readers should be referred to official sites about that. Mechanically generated articles like these are boring, and ultimately unhelpful to readers, since the information in them is not official and is almost sure to become outdated. Moreover they swamp many searches on topics related to India. Articles on important elections are welcome, but they should be created and edited individually by hand, so that they will tend to have only information that is of lasting interest.

Vidhan Sabha → Legislative Assembly (India) – All the legislative assembly constituencies articles are written as Legislative Assembly instead of Vidhan Sabha. Also, there is another page with the similar meaning Legislative Assembly --Relisted. George Ho (talk) 05:54, 30 May 2015 (UTC) Vin09 (talk) 12:20, 23 May 2015 (UTC)
Comment - I think we need some evidence that the name in common use in reliable references is predominantly that being proposed. That the articles mostly use the term may only show the contributor's own preferences. Imc (talk) 20:05, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

This page needs to be moved from Vidhan Sabha to Indian State Legislative Assembly
editThis page needs to be moved from Vidhan Sabha to State Legislative Assembly. Vidhan Sabha is an Hindi word for Indian State Legislative assembly and not many will undertstand this word. As India have multiple official language. For example in Tamil, it is "Manila Sattaperavai" in Malayalam it is "sansthāna niyamasabha". Hence it is appropriate to change the name of this page in English, so that it will be understood by everyone. Please see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Member_of_the_Legislative_Assembly_(India) Which says the member of Legeslative assembly, not Members of Vidhan Sabha. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bharani444 (talk • contribs) 21:14, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
Historical Vidhan Sabhas
editSo the article is missing some of the now-defunt Vidhan Sabhas. But I struggle a bit with drawing the line:
- Bhopal State, Madhya Bharat, Sourastra, Travancore-Cochin and Vindhya Pradesh should be pretty straight-forward.
- How about Andhra State? Arguably Andhra State and Andhra Pradesh are not the same, but the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly article implies that it began with the Andhra State, but not sure how solid that argument is. Our Andhra Pradesh article stated that AP was founded in 1956.
- How about Mysore State? Our article on Karnataka says Karntaka was founded in 1956 (but used the name Mysore). So arguably the Mysore State Legislature elected in 1952 is not the same as the Karnataka Legislative Assembly?
- For Madras, we simply consider Madras/Tamil Nadu as a name change of the same state?

The result of the move request was: No consensus Soman you can make another move request for your proposed name. For the Mean time I don’t see any consensus forming here(closed by non-admin page mover) Megan Barris (Lets talk📧) 08:01, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
State Legislative Assembly (India) → State Legislative Assembly – the term 'State Legislative Assembly' is more commonly used for the Indian state legislatures, as evidenced by Google search. Proposed title itself currently redirects to the State Legislative Assembly (India) after a redirect cleanup, former redirects to the State legislative assemblies of Malaysia have been fixed. — Hemant Dabral (📞 • ✒) 18:47, 10 August 2020 (UTC) — Hemant Dabral (📞 • ✒) 18:47, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose - the proper name here is either Vidhan Sabha or Legislative Assembly. MLAs as called 'MLAs' not 'MSLAs', 'State Legislative Assembly' is largely a neologism for Wikipedia use. I'd rather propose we move to 'Legislative Assembly (India)'. --Soman (talk) 19:32, 10 August 2020 (UTC)

State Legislative Assembly (India) → State Legislative Assembly – As per WP:PRIMARY, no need of disambiguation as the target page redirects itself to the current page. — Hemant Dabral (📞 • ✒) 05:48, 3 September 2020 (UTC)—Relisting. Jerm (talk) 15:21, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 11:08, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Hemant Dabral: There are many variously named organizations in many countries, that could be described as state legislative assemblies. There is no harm in keeping the disambiguater "(India)". And see the older move requests listed above. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 11:11, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
- Disagree - Move to Vidhan Sabha instead as per WP:CONSISTENT & WP:PRECISION. -- Manasbose (talk | contribs) 09:18, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose Vidhan Sabha per WP:NCUE; also considering that only 11 out of 31 bodies use the Hindi-language term, while rest all use English.--Ab207 (talk) 19:18, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose North Dakota Legislative Assembly etc also called State Legislative Assembly in caps. And why was this move attempted as a technical request when it had only just failed an RM?? In ictu oculi (talk) 17:03, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- Move to State legislative assemblies of India: WP:CONSISTENT with State governments of India and State legislative assemblies of Malaysia.--Ab207 (talk) 19:13, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- Move to State legislative assemblies of India per Ab207: consistent and WP:NATURAL. It's hardly a WP:PRIMARY term outside of India, and the proposed title badly fails WP:RECOGNIZABLE. No such user (talk) 08:21, 28 September 2020 (UTC)

Images in the table
editDo we need all the images in the table? What value would they add. Without them, the table would look simple and would convey the information better. -- DaxServer (talk) 21:12, 7 July 2021 (UTC)

AITC and CPIM are not part of state-INDIA bloc
editAITC and CPIM did not fight elections with the alliance during the 2024 Indian general election and they have never contested in alliance with each other. They should be put under the Others bar along with Zoram People's Movement's government. Xoocit (talk) 20:17, 20 June 2024 (UTC)
