Just quotes; Hook cited: Yes, to WaPo; Hook interest: Good; Hook length: WP:DYK200 is somewhat confusing because it can be seen as conflicting with WP:DYKHOOKSTYLE ("keep hooks short and to the point"). You designed your hook to fit DYK200, but neglected DYKHOOKSTYLE. This issue comes up a lot. I wouldn't worry about it for the moment, but we should come back to it. If you want to write alternate hooks that are shorter, that would help. DYK200 is more of an outer bound. Shoot for the middle ground. Status: I would be happy to pass the long, 200 character hook, but I know it will receive pushback, so it would be best if you offer some ALTs, either a shortened version or other, additional hooks.   • Not bad. You are being unintentionally ambiguous about her motive, which is to keep turtle ponds clean and preserve the natural environment. You say she is a "turtle fan", but when I first read this, I thought it was an unknown Cape Cod sports team. She's really a conservationist, turtle advocate, environmentalist, what have you, and I found the hook(s) slightly confusing. Why is she retrieving litter? Is she going to redeem it for recycling rebates? Not to be funny, but if it is confusing me, an avowed supporter of ecological remediation, it is probably going to confuse others. I made an attempt to fix this in the lead. I also added a sentence about how she came to this practice since the article was far too close to the bare minimum for newness (in terms of characters).
