Still fleshing out the detail but the size of the organisation (40,000 members with an estimated income in the multiple millions) and its recent controversies I think provide more than enough justification for the article. I will add more in coming days. --2006BC 23:40, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
There also many articles linking to this one in the expectation that there would one day be an article on it. --2006BC 23:41, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
Speedy tag
editThis should not be speedied. Swinburne student union is clearly notable. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 00:48, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
Great article Benjamin, I removed the speedy tag. Hope that's OK. DarrenRay 01:43, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
I must agree, good quality article and I used alot of your material as one of the main sources of the edit I made today, I also clarified a few things which had been stated in error previously. In particular, that the cafes have been outsourced to CoffeeHQ, not Gloria Jeans and that Michael Kandelaars rather than Keith Warburton was the other main contributor to the voluntary membership packs. (Maybe that is why someone listed him as AWOL a while back, he's been busy!). I would have liked to have touched a little more on the whole controversies with staff and the funding denial, unfortunately as part of the court settlement there was an NDA so those involved aren't allowed to speak to me that I may clarify that matter here. Partly I guess is because the dispute is very difficult to portray in an NPOV manner. SwinburneSU 04:48 PM, November 3, 2006 (AEST)
Edits made on 31st October due to NPOV Problems
editThe edits made on 31st October 2006 were made by President Vicky Kasidis in order to correct edits - That user's allegation that the SSU had been "hijacked" by Socialist Alternative was, to put it mildly, rather non-NPOV. That, and it simply wasn't true. Some of our reps are indeed SA members, but that doesn't meant they run the show. The President is affiliated with The Greens and our TAFE rep with Labor Unity, as well as other students who are politically independent. Additionally, Caspar Cumming is the President Elect for 2007. I will hopefully be able to correct things making use of some earlier versions of this article as well as some additions from an insider's perspective. Please be patient, as I am but a newb at this and would rather do things properly than engage in excessive haste. -- SwinburneSU
- And another edit this afternoon due to the "perverse agenda of left wing students" etc etc garbage. If there's anybody who beats student politicans for sheer mind-blowing pettiness, I'm yet to be aware of them. -- SwinburneSU

Fixed issues with inline citation, intricate detail and notability
editMarch 2015; Added more citations, including sources from major news outlets that mention the organisation, removed the tags for these two issues. Unsure what to do about intricate detail. Assuming that tag is due to the list of current incumbents. This information is probably unnecessary; none of the current representatives have their own wikipedia pages or are of note and this information is readily available on the official website which is linked. The list has now been deleted. - <3 Tori — Preceding unsigned comment added by WomensSSU (talk • contribs) 00:12, 15 March 2015 (UTC)
