What is the source for the statement that the governor declared the area Hyde Park? It sounds to me like a mistake, and should say Moore Park. JPD (talk) 18:05, 24 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
It would appear to come from here, I think it's just meant as a preamble to the founding of the SCG. Hyde Park probably was the site of the first cricket ground, rather than any specifically to do with the SCG.
This says that the area currently known as Hyde Park was set aside by Macquarie for cricket and other sports. It has nothing to do with the current location of the SCG and Moore Park, except as a preamble for where the colonists used to play sport.
