DOB

edit

DOB keeps getting removed. This is fully cited in personal biographies and well respected sites such as IMDB. I do not believe it breaches WP:DOB as it is publicly available. If editors believe there is a full DOB issue then can I suggest you follow WP:DOB and amend to year only (although as noted, this seems unnecessary). "Cited" does not mean the information is available somewhere on the internet, it means the source is identified (linked in case of a web source) within the article. See Wikipedia:Citing sources for how to do so. And IMDb is not a reliable source. Nardog (talk) 01:44, 24 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
I perhaps used cited in too loose a manner to be honest, in that the IMDB link that provides the date of birth as July 1996 is a general reference and provided as an external link within the article. My understanding of inline citations are they are only required where the information is likely to be challenged, which I didn't consider to be the case as this date is provided in many other biographical summaries. Are you challenging the veracity of the date? I note that IMDB is not listed as a reliable source, but there are plenty of articles and references from reliable sources as defined by WP (e.g. Vogue) where these dates are quoted and therefore could be cited instead. As I say I only believe that's required if that date is being questioned, so perhaps you could clarify. Tricklecharge (talk) 11:29, 24 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Removal is a form of challenging material. The burden to demonstrate verifiability lies with the editor who adds or restores material. So show us those sources that "could be cited instead". Nardog (talk) 11:36, 24 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Tricklecharge - Every statement in a Wikipedia article should be supported by an inline citation to a reliable source, and BLPs are subject to extra strictures. WP:DOB says that dob should be "widely published by reliable sources, or by sources linked to the subject such that it may reasonably be inferred that the subject does not object to the details being made public". IMDb is not considered to be a reliable source for personal information. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 11:45, 24 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
My understanding from Wikipedia:Citing sources is that "policy requires inline citations for any material challenged or likely to be challenged, and for all quotations, anywhere in article space." Until this point I hadn't considered it was challenged but on the basis that I take the DOB as now _challenged_ by dint of its removal, I will reverse the change and reintroduce it once I have added appropriate text in the body of the article, with an inline citation to that text.
