The result of the proposal was Moot; page was moved to Travel and Living Channel (out of process!), which solves the key concerns of nomination. No prejudice against immediate new movereq to change to [:TLC (Australia and New Zealand)]] (the original req of nom) or other target. DMacks (talk) 06:23, 27 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Discovery Travel & Living (Australia and New Zealand)TLC (Australia and New Zealand) — Discovery Travel & Living was rebranded today as TLC (with TLC standing for "Travel and Living Channel" NOT "The Learning Channel". I have completely updated the entire page with the new logo, updated history, etc. but the name should be changed. Forbesy 777 (talk) 07:29, 1 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

I think it would be better to move it to Travel & Living Channel (Australia and New Zealand). Reubot (talk) 07:31, 1 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
There seem to be several similar TLC articles, with various names, and many potential redirects/disambiguation hatnotes missing. Anything to tidy them up (some of them could even be merged, I guess) has my support.--Kotniski (talk) 13:03, 18 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Availability in InfoBox

edit

I have removed the Indonesian providers from the InfoBox today as I have realized that they are also listed on the TLC Asia. As such, I believe this channel solely services Australia and New Zealand. If anyone can provide evidence as to what channel feeds are available and what countries they service it would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

The result of the move request was: moved to TLC (Australian TV channel). SSTflyer 10:42, 26 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Travel and Living ChannelTLC (Australia) – The channel is refered to both on-air and in written material as TLC and has for several years. While it may have been called Travel and Living Channel some time ago, and TLC may stand for that (as opposed to The Learning Channel as in the U.S. TLC channel), I think it makes far more sense to have the page named TLC. My proposed target page is currenty a redirect to this article.

NB. I have listed this as a possibly controversial move only because I note it has been the subject of a page move proposal once before. -- Whats new?(talk) 10:16, 13 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • Comment. If it is moved then it needs to be to TLC (Australian TV channel) or something similar. TLC (Australia) is meaningless unless that's what it's actually called. The American channel is at TLC (TV network). -- Necrothesp (talk) 10:54, 13 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. No advantage to making this move that I can see. (1) We would lose the current WP:NATURALDIS, (2) We lose some degree of WP:RECOGNIZEability, and (3) I don't think it satisfies MOS:ACRONYM, particularly the line Many acronyms are used for several things; naming a page with the full name helps to avoid clashes. This suggests we should spell it out even if it is more commonly known with the abbreviation.  — Amakuru (talk) 10:24, 20 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • Support. Since the merger of Travel and Living with Discovery Home and Health the channel has largely moved away from travel programming to more lifestyle and reality series (e.g. Say Yes to the Dress, Kate Plus 8, etc.). As such the channel is no longer an acronym but rather just an international version of the U.S. TLC which too no longer stands for its original acronym. I just haven't proposed the move myself as I haven't found a reference to support such a change in channel direction. Forbesy 777 (talk) 10:43, 20 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • Support in general as this looks like the new common name, but TLC (TV network) would also have to move.--Cúchullain t/c 17:11, 21 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. Non meaningful title for an obscure commercial topic. TLAs are to be avoided. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 05:44, 22 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
Non-meaningful title? The channel is branded as TLC, uses the same branding and logo as the U.S. TLC channel, and is no longer referred to nor comprises programming relevant to Travel and Living. -- Whats new?(talk) 05:57, 22 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
Jargon for an obscure topic. So what do people really call it? A search for sources commenting reveals that this is a non-notable topic that should be deleted. Wikipedia is not a directory of TV channels. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 06:08, 22 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
It is referred to as TLC. It was once known as Discovery Travel and Living, as the article itself notes. If you want to go off on a tangent that the entire article is not notable that's a different discussion you can launch elsewhere. -- Whats new?(talk) 06:14, 22 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
Referred by to who? "TLC" is too short. No one would refer to it that way in a context-free introduction. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 06:55, 22 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
Tell that to TLC (group), TLC (TV network), TLC (Asia), TLC (UK and Ireland), TLC (TV series). What a bizarre argument. The proposed move is not to a "context-free" location, it is to TLC (Australian TV channel) or TLC (Australia). The context is in the title. -- Whats new?(talk) 07:27, 22 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
"TLC" is your proposed title, the rest is disambiguation. The title is too short. As I said, it is frustrating that there is no real coverage by independent reliable sources to be guided by, and this is a problem with articles that cross the NOTDIRECTORY line. Deletion or merging is usually the solution, not bad titling. The other articles are poorly titled too. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 07:38, 22 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
There are sources within all of the articles named TLC including this one. It is hard to see how this page breaches NOTDIRECTORY. Not sure what your apparent bias with three character titles are, but there are literally hundreds of them on Wikpedia. Perhaps you want to rename all of the ABCs as well? -- Whats new?(talk) 08:04, 22 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • Move to TLC (Australian TV channel), assuming that it is actually under TLC (TV network) brand umbrella now. In ictu oculi (talk) 16:00, 25 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • Support move to TLC (Australian TV channel). I've noticed this channel's shift away from its former programming and branding over the years to more closely resemble the American TLC, with much of its content. It no longer brands itself as "Travel and Living" or shows that kind of content (well, maybe perhaps the 'living' part...a little). To have it under the former name still is misleading and frankly, nobody knows it as Travel and Living anymore. Channels rebrand all the time, and they are quite often moved (per Freeform (TV channel) from ABC Family, which I'm sure is still the name it is known as to many people, so the common name argument doesn't always stack up). Also, the article should be rewritten a little when this happens, as its programming is no longer Travel and Living-based and the article still claims it is.
