City of Tambaram
editCity or suburban is a legal and administrative definition. Your personal views and opinions contrary to that are your own opinions, that do not constitute a fact. Please refer to Section 2(1)(a) of The Tambaram City Municipal Corporation Act, 2022.
Reasoning such as, "Tambaram is not a city. It is part of Chennai Metropolitan area being a southern suburb. Tambaram [City Municipal] Corporation is established as separate corporation only for better administration to govern Southern suburbs in Chengalpattu District" shows lack of basic understanding of administrative divisions. - "City" is the terminology used locally in the gazette to define the Act (similar to the word "buyer" or "seller" used locally in a sale deed to define the person); see "In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires..." in Section 2(1). Any locality (corporation, municipality, panchayat, or otherwise) within the CMA area is part of the metropolis of Chennai. They are called neighbourhoods or suburbs of the city. - Yeah, it is part of the Chennai Metropolitan Area. Chennai Metropolitan Area which is not a city, City of Chennai is the city. A metropolitan area, by definition, could include include multiple cities and towns. The metropolitan area is an urban agglomeration, not a jurisdiction or administrative division. - You may also refer to Section 1 of the Tambaram City Municipal Corporation Act, 2022.
- 1. (1) This Act may be called the Tambaram City Municipal Corporation Act, 2022.
- (2) It extends to the city of Tambaram.
- (3) It shall be deemed to have come into force on the 3rd day of November 2021.
- It is before, "In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,—" and it is used in the same way Central Acts use, "It extends to the whole of India" and State Acts use, "It extends to the whole of the State of Tamil Nadu." Wiki6995 (talk) 18:27, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- Please note that despite the creation of corporation, the word "City" appearing in the act, etc. etc., a suburb/neighbourhood within a metropolis is considered de facto part of the city and is defined so in the lead in any encyclopedic entries, more so with a megalopolis like Chennai. Any locality within Chennai's 426 sq km will be called a neighbourhood and any locality within it's 5904 sq km area will be called a suburb of Chennai, irrespective of its municipal status (corporation, municipality, panchayat, village, census town, SEZ, etc.). The creation of corporations/municipalities within this area is merely for administrative reason and not for encyclopedic definition. Nevertheless, I'm not reverting your edit for now, assuming good faith, but wait for other editors' views. Thanks. Rasnaboy (talk) 08:55, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- The jurisdiction is established in Section 1(2) when it says, "It [the Act] extends to the City of Tambaram." What's majority of editors believes it to be true does not apply when it comes to law and administrative division. Wikipedia isn't there to serve confirmation bias, but it is here to provide credible and accessible information.
- Metropolitan area is used for planning, as does Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority within Chennai metropolitan area, which includes Tambaram. I suggest you refer to Wikipedia page on Metropolitan Area, Cities within the Metropolitan Area and their local government, from outside India. As in India, administrative divisions happen top to down with little to no public consultation, Indian pages often rely on perception of truth than facts. And, I hope to fix the ones that I know about. Wiki6995 (talk) 09:15, 20 September 2023 (UTC)

Neighbourhoods
editFor the Neighbourhoods, as used in the Zones and Categories, I propose usage of "Village" as defined and used by Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) for Master planning and Land Use here.
As per this classification, many of the now-defunct local government bodies are villages, with exception of three municipality— Pallavaram, Tambaram and Sembakkam— which consists of multiple villages. The following are list of defunct local government bodies which were annexed into Tambaram City Municipal Corporation and their constituent villages:
- Anakaputhur (Former Municipality): Anakaputhur
- Pallavaram (Former Municipality): Hasthinapuram, Issa Pallavaram, Keelkattalai, Nemilicheri, Pallavaram
- Pammal (Former Municipality): Pammal
- Sembakkam (Former Municipality): Gowrivakkam, Rajakilpakkam, Sembakkam
- Tambaram (Former Municipality): Irumbuliyur, Kadapperi, Pulikoradu, Selaiyur, Tambaram
- Chitlapakkam (Former Town Panchayat): Chitlapakkam
- Madambakkam (Former Town Panchayat): Madambakkam
- Perungaluthur (Former Town Panchayat): Perungaluthur
- Peerkangaranai (Former Town Panchayat): Peerkangaranai
- Tiruneermalai (Former Town Panchayat): Tiruneermalai
With regards to Wards, it was easier to identify the corresponding village when the former local government bodies consisted of a single village, as the Ward list for Tambaram City Municipal Corporation with information of the Wards of the former local government bodies. The source for the ward list as follows:
- Tambaram City Municipal Corporation Ward No 1 to 25
- Tambaram City Municipal Corporation Ward No 26 to 50
- Tambaram City Municipal Corporation Ward No 51 to 70
Additionally, map of each of the Tambaram City Municipal Corporation Ward can be found here and the Ward-wise map of the ambaram City Municipal Corporation can be found here.
- If someone can identify the Wards corresponding to the Villages of former Pallavaram municipality (Hasthinapuram, Issa Pallavaram, Keelkattalai, Nemilicheri and Pallavaram), former Sembakkam municipality (Gowrivakkam, Rajakilpakkam and Sembakkam) and former Tambaram municipality (Irumbuliyur, Kadapperi, Pulikoradu, Selaiyur and Tambaram), please update the Zones accordingly.
