Proposal for rename

edit

This article should be entitled Tammuz (month). The information here was initially included at Tammuz (Hebrew month) but was farmed out by Epson291 who insisted that article should only cover the Hebrew month and no others. This article should cover Tammuz as a month in the original Babylonian calendar and all derivatives. There should be a summary of the Hebrew month as well that links back to Tammuz (Hebrew month). Any objections? Tiamuttalk 20:30, 22 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Tammuz (Hebrew month) is a month of the unique solar lunar Hebrew calendar. It has its own article, as does every month of the Gregorian calendar, Islamic calendar, etc... The issue here is that the word Tammuz (or variets of) (which all ultimately derive from the same source) is the word for July in a certain langagues, specfically Levantine Arabic (countries part of the Levant), where Tammuz is simply used for the month of July (which already has an article). Wikipedia does not have articles for translations of words (then we would have full fledged articles for Juliol, Jolay, Luglio, Julio, etc..., but we don't), though I'm not going to argue with Tiamut since she seams to think the word is important. However, the reason the articles are at Tammuz (Babylonian calendar) and Tammuz (Hebrew month), and neither are at Tammuz (month) (which redirects to a disambiguation page), is for fairness not to choose one over the other). I believe that should stay. You can see the discussion here (Tammuz). - Epson291 (talk) 22:37, 22 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
