Merger proposal

There's reason to believe that Rantau and Tebing Tinggi are the same island, despite the lack of citations in the former article. While the name 'Rantau' is elusive and I haven't managed to locate it in any publications, I've found several that do confirm the identity of Tebing Tinggi and include maps of it (which I've since edited into this article as references). With this information in mind, consider the following:

  • The island identified with Tebing Tinggi in those articles matches the coordinates included in both articles (while these coordinates are different, they are only a short distance apart).
  • Both articles mention Selat Panjang as the largest town on the island.
  • The Spanish, Galician, Italian, and German articles all mention that Tebing Tinggi and Rantau are two names for the same island.

If the articles are to be merged, the article name Tebing Tinggi Island should be retained considering the publications from Indonesian universities that use this name. 146.169.201.28 (talk) 08:15, 18 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
