Mention of the Terminator(Film)?

• Terminator doesn't seem very noir to me. It is a straight forward psycho-killer action movie with sci-fi elements. What is this?

I haven't seen anything in this article to suggest that 'Tech noir' is anything more than a description of the art style of most cyberpunk movies. There's no real citations and the article almost boils down to a list of movies that supposedly fit into the 'tech noir' "genre". Awful

This article is just awful, an embarrassment, really. Is this a genre, or a style of art and set design, or simply a description of a certain "look" or "feel" shared by a certain arbitrary set of films? The article is unclear because it lacks cites from reliable sources. Tech noir exists, certainly, as the phrase was coined for The Terminator, but only to describe a certain style Cameron was going for. Nothing suggests that this is a genre, or even a subgenre. If you go through the article and remove all the speculation and unsubstantiated opinion, there would be very little left. This would be a good idea, actually, and then what remains can be merged to the cyberpunk article, since what is described here is nearly identical. ---RepublicanJacobite_TheFortyFive 17:36, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

• Your opinion that the world of 1984, in which "The Terminator" takes place, is "Cyberpunk" falls on its face. "Tech Noir" is somewhat a stretch, but more believable than "cyberpunk," since there is only one killer cyborg in the 1984 story. I think a "Cyberpunk" 1984 would involve a more wide-spread and cultural focus on tech than as depicted, which pretty much mirrors the actual 1984 as experienced by movie goers, with the additions of the time-traveling guardian and assassin. Definition of Tech Noir

I see a lot of great data about tech noir, but no definition of it. Does someone have a definition for Tech Noir they would like to share?

This says: "Tech-noir films are about technology perceived as a destructive and dystopian force that threatens every aspect of our reality. They often expose the temporal nature of concepts of identity and society: rather than being fixed aspects of a permanent and indestructible 'nature,' these concepts, like nature itself, are shown as mere parts of a larger simulacrum that is subject to change, exploitation, and even annihilation."
